Free for perpetuity E-On Software's VUE, PlantFactory, and PlantCatalog

+43 Deal Score

E-On Software's creative software VUE, PlantFactory and the PlanCatalog are not being developed further, and Bentley has decided to make the software free in perpetuity (details on the web page).

No hoops to jump through - just agree to the terms and the software can be downloaded, installed and run. It can be used for commercial work too, but there are some restrictions on selling created catalog content - please read FAQ and T&C.

See wiki for details if you aren't familiar with their products. Here's E-On Software's YouTube channel [youtube.com] which has many videos including tutorials on how to use the software.

Sadly all the product page links redirect to the sunset announcement so it's hard to find info on their web site now.

VUE can create virtual environments - realistic landscapes or fantasy environments like what you'd see in movies, music videos etc. Here are a few old showreels [youtube.com] still up on their YouTube channel.

PlantFactory allows creation of plants, trees etc. which can be placed in virtual environments. Here's a showreel [youtube.com] for that.

Slickdeals is really more intended to be a place where deals are posted, not to do all your research for you. Posts about knives and kitchenware aren't really there to describe what each piece does, it's just letting know so you can go get it if you want it.
if you have the info, you need to share it. and the OP should give a clear description as well

pretty nifty, op! haven't ever used this, but i do still remember microstation from back in my architecture school* days (when all the autocad licenses were in use on the "public" workstations), and using it to do sections for the laser cutters
You're a freaking luminary in this thread! for the novel idea of googling something. Sorry, couldn't help a little but cheeky, but I can't believe that people think their time is so important they can't be bothered to Google anymore, but are happy to expect someone else to do it for them. Thanks for doing the couple minutes of research instead of whining and thumbs downing (which is counterproductive for a great piece of free software…)

E-onsoftware was bought years ago. Try this link from archive.org for some information.

It's already been explained in a comment.

The sarcasm of my initial post aside, we all have access to the same search engines and AI/LLMs at this point, what am I going to tell you that 15-30 seconds of research or ChatGPT couldn't?

Neither OP nor myself "need" to share anything…you have the same access to knowledge; Google, wikipedia, chatGPT, Bing, DuckDuckGo…tons of things at your disposal.

Imagine someone creating some hidden malware and burying it in a software package that has only vague descriptions, but claiming that it was recently made free.. enough to make people curious.

Then imagine that person posting this information and link to a website frequented by cheap bastards that will take anything for nothing, even if they'll never use it.

Both links are broken, the download and the YouTube link
Just tested both links in the OP and they are working. If anything the redirects might be causing issues but the links are good. If they continue to fail for you, try:

1. Download: Bentley.com -- Software (from top navigation) -- View all software -- Select "Reality and Spatial Modeling -- scroll down to bottom right "e-on Software"

2. Showreels/tutorials: YouTube.com and type in @eonsoftware in the search box and their channel will be the top result

But seriously, Bentley is a publicly traded company.

Eon software is from the same era. Wikipedia says Vue's initial release was in 1997.

I disagree. The slickdeals community is very good with supporting all aspects of a deal including all and any questions about what the item in the deal is or does. As long as the questions aren't side railing the deal conversion. A simple, "What is this product, or what do people use it for?" are completely inline with what slickdeals forums hot deals forums have always been.

Which is not what happened in the original comment. It was 'thumbs down because I'm ignorant to what this product does'.

That's not asking a question or offering support.

I like this approach. I am going to adopt it. Thanks kind stranger.
