Tom's Hardware review:
Kingston NV2 SSD Review: Cheap But Risky
A generic budget SSD with irregular hardware

The 2TB Kingston NV2 is a dirt cheap NVMe SSD and not much more. Performance is fairly bad, the drive runs hot, and you cannot be certain of the hardware. It makes for a cheap secondary drive but is not ideal for laptops or for use as a primary drive.
I got it the first time it popped up here and it is slow. I will use it for nonessential data, if you don't have a use for it, I think it is expensive even for $30 Smilie
The thing about buying a drive that you can't trust is that you can't always remember that you shouldn't trust it. Drives with a high chance of failure are almost worthless.

Don't use it as an external drive. External doesn't support HMB and this drive is DRAM-less
But someone else wrote that it's bad in a laptop. So what is it good for? 😂

I bought two and putting it on my two pci 4.0 x1 slots with a cheap $5 adapter. I take advantage of getting pcie 4.0 speed for x1 but it will max out at 2GB/s so this being a slow driver doesn't matter. It won't get as hot since it won't run at max speed and being power hungry isn't concern like a laptop. Also i can use hmb vs an external.

Tbh it's a lower tier drive, and theres a lot of better options for most applications (at a higher price). I think it would be fine for a laptop drive or a PC drive as long as you do basic data protection practices and don't be upset when the very cheap price drive fails earlier than the more expensive drives. 3-2-1 backup system especially applies. But it should be used in an application that supports HMB at least.

How would this compare to a more "traditional" 2.5 inch SATA SSD in performance?

Just bought myself. Ended up at $38. But considering I've needed a drive now for months but wouldn't buy bc of pricing, this should work as a good secondary drive! Shipping is 4 weeks atm

This is much much faster than SATA SSD drive, but you still wont notice the difference running OS and apps. Majority of the people on SD touts Samsung 990Pro and WD black nvme but you wont feel the difference in loading, boot time and games.

If you plan on transferring plenty of files between two fast nvme drives then you may want to consider higher tier drives. Otherwise, it is for benchmarking and bragging rights.

Hey may I know what do you mean by " two pci 4.0 x1 slots with a cheap $5 adapter" ? are you placing two of these drives in one adaptor so that the PC reads it as 2TB ? Are you placing it in a laptop or a desktop? Can you please provide a link to the adapter ?
Thank you

Has anyone tried this in PS5?
Looking at YT videos, it seems it doesn't care about speeds as long as it is gen 4.

I just got this drive. And can confirm it's one of the worst drives I've ever used. After about 280gb of videos and music transfered, all transfers write at 85mbps. No matter what. Before that it was maxed out between 260-400mbps. I'm returning it.

Does it have a Phison or Silicon motion controller?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09N1HSS53?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details [amazon.com] is an example. I have two pci e 4 x1 slots on my motherboard so i am getting around 1.6 GB/s speeds read and write which plenty fast enough for games and videos. If you have pcie x4 or larger slots open you can get the full speed of the drive with these adapters running at x4. But in that case I rather getting a better drive.

The NV2 has about 88GB of pseudo-SLC cache, so it will write up to about that much at full speed before dropping to about 600MB/s. Is this on a motherboard pci-e slot?
