No cutter pass
Not a no name product, this is the official KitchenAid roller... It works great and the only other tool you *need* is a kitchen knife to easily make some tagliatelle or linguine or a knife and a fork to make ravioli

Yes. I had to go with the previous, KPRA model which is made from Italy. I opened it up, the build quality is very different, obviously the KPRA is way superior. Additional, the part that gets a lot of shear stress is designed to break to protect your machine, and is replaceable.

Although a decent price for the product, having to purchase another product to get the full effect of creating pasta makes this less appealing.

I have made lasagna sheets or ravioli with this.

I got this model and it's made in China. It broke within a couple of uses. Luckily I could still return it. The part that broke (plastic housing stripped) is irreplaceable so you'd have to buy a new unit.
Wait, where is this "plastic housing" you talked about in this stainless steel roller? I was about to place order and your experience concerned me little bit.

sure just replace flour with whatever flour you want. Just be warned some flour's like an extreme whole wheat make too dense of a dough to use easily.
Thanks!

Yes, inside they are using plastic. I also had one that broke. I had paid >$100 for the 3 piece roller + cutter set and feel ripped off - mainly because I only used it like 3-4 times before it broke.

It's inside the roller. If you open it up you will see it. Dark grey

Isn't this super dangerous? I can't imagine a finger getting stuck there.

Think if you put your hand into the 1/2 horsepower mixer itself....

Yea it's inside the unit and it's the part connecting the big screw which turns the roller, very stupid cheap design

The 5 piece set costs almost as much as a whole mixer.

Probably cost as much time and money for kitchen aid to make…

Purchased this then cancelled after reading reviews. This KSMPSA roller contains plastic wipers to guide the dough that break easily and also has a gear that is plastic that wears down over the years. KSMPRA is supposedly all metal

I've been so sad that I got rid of my 3 piece set during a move, but unwilling to spend 150-200 to replace it. But I'm realizing that this is the piece I actually miss, since I mostly miss making crackers. Plus I mostly do lasagna or ravioli, so while the cutters will be missed, I can finally move on from my sadness. Thanks op!

Unless you want to make pasta this way, or making something specific like lasagna, or dumpling skins... getting a machine that pushes out the pasta is significantly easier and almost as good. For this, you have to mix the dough, then run it through the pasta maker several times, then finding a place to hang dry the noodles. It's a process that takes time.

For the machines that push out pasta, it's basically like using a break maker, with an additional step of cutting the pasta when you see fit

You don't need to dry it. Fresh pasta can be cooked right away and it's delicious.

Is this the all metal version you are referring to?

I don't think you understand how this works. You have to have two attachments, one to flatten the dough, then a second to cut it. This is a great price for the roller. I would guess the cutter goes on sale periodically as well.
