Do yourself a favor and get it from Walmart on sale. $12 for a 3 year warranty so you can exchange it anytime you want (and stick drift sets in quick with my death grip). Highly recommend.

I've had two series 1 controllers and two series 2 controllers. All failed eventually in some way. The last one I had bought from Costco and they kindly gave me all my money back when Microsoft refused to do anything at the thirteen month mark. I bought a DualSense Edge instead and that's been working great for about fifteen months now. If you buy this controller, I highly recommend an extended warranty with it.

Everytime these deals come up I mention if anyone is getting this you better get a warranty. Something on it WILL break at some point. The controller is such a a great feeling control and I love the paddles but buttons will become unresponsive. My RB button only works 50% of the time and I mapped it to a back paddle for the last 2 years

Series 3 likely to get announced in June. Hopefully with Hall effect sticks
It has already been confirmed the new new version of the base controller will not have hall effect sticks. A new series 3 of the elite will prob be a while, but can almost guarantee they will use the same tech in the sticks as the base controller. The selling point ms has with these new ones are the stick modules are swappable, so they can sell you more sticks when they inevitably start drifting.

Do these still have the issue of poor response on X and Y buttons?
Yes but within a week or so of normal use (or you can speed up the process by spamming the buttons a bunch) they feel completely responsive. It is unfortunately just how they come new. And it can affect all face buttons.

What's a good extended warranty to buy after I receive this?
You can buy one direct from MS.

He's thinking of the standard warranty that it comes with. It used to come with a 1 year warranty, but they changed it to 2. Getting the 3 year extended warranty from Microsoft is definitely the way to go.
Actually it used to have a 3 month warranty 😳 and they extended that to 1 year after tons of blowback.

This was my EXACT experience except i keep coming back. I'm on my third and stick drift just kicked in, Costco replaced a previous one after it stopped working at 13mos and Microsoft wouldn't do anything.

Input lag (on pc), trash analog sticks. This controller sucks/ I got a dual sense edge and some stick extenders for cod and it is a night and day differmce In terms of stick drift and how good the sticks are. Also the input lag on pc is way less too. But if you have Xbox this is a good deal. For pc controller get the dual sense edge with some extensions and it's perfect

Are you able to buy an extended warranty after purchase?

Mine does not have a two year warranty. I bought it in 2022 and it expired end of 2023. Outside of warranty and the left stick has stopped responding.

FWIW. I've had three Elites over about 10 years. Only had one fail and it was the bumper… pretty sure it got dropped and hit the bumper directly.

Search the internet and you will find complaints about almost any controller. Especially the longevity (stick drift, etc.)

I have a friend with a PS5 and he just finished his 3rd repair on his controllers at about 2 years in.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, if I was Xbox and not PC, I'd probably be back with an Elite right now. I really loved that controller and enjoyed the four paddles but with the DualSense Edge and third party software, I can still rebind the front two function buttons so it's similar functionality.

Plugged in via USB or wireless with the Xbox wireless dongle there is no lag on PC. Only over Bluetooth connection, which is a worse connection anyway for many reasons. Sony has lower BT input lag, but is known for missing entire button inputs which is even worse for a competitive game.

If you don't care that the controller is wireless, plug it in, if it needs to be wireless, you need the dongle.

There are an awful lot of reviews of peope saying they got USED controllers (sold as new), that the serial numbers were too old to register for a warranty with Microsoft, and that Verizon refused to pay for return shipping. I would proceed with caution.

Get the gamesir g7 se instead. Yes it's wired but no more dealing with batteries is a nice compromise for my situation.

Maybe I've been out of the loop for a while, but why the hell is a controller worth $100+?
