To prevent flood that could cost 5-10k to repair? Go troll else where
If you know where the main water line comes into your house and it's easily accessible, should only run you a couple hundred dollars on today's standards. But if it is accessible you could also do it yourself. The device comes with a spacer so you cut a section out of the main line that length plus extra for the fittings, install male threaded adapters using one of the methods I mentioned below and attach the threaded adapters that come with it and install the device. If you ever need to remove it, you just put that spacer in his place. If you're not comfortable shutting your water off at the meter or using SharkBite or PEX fittings or pro-press or using a torch and sweating the pipe yourself, then yeah call a plumber.
This is from Costco (arguably one of the most reputable retailer) and Moen (a household name that make shower and sink faucets).

Note that if you're installing this for insurance, they'll still make you pay a plumber to inspect the installation.

I am sorry you had an accident and had to deal with insurance claims which is an ordeal. One of my pipe busted on Mother's day but Thank God, we were home. Heard it the very minute it broke, rushed and shutoff the inlet. It was such a wake-up call that I bought this without thinking for a second.

Curious.. what was the reason of busted pipe? Copper pipe or PEX?

For those that have it: how reliable has it been? Does it throw any false positives (like defects a leak but there really isn't one)? What are the manual options in the event of a power/wifi outage?
I've had it for about a year. I used to have a flume, which was phenomenal in terms of measuring water usage, but the constant changing of batteries got too annoying to keep with. I decided I didn't want I have to monitor my water monitor.

The Flo has been reliable for me so far. The water monitoring is no where near as detailed as Flume's, and it's pretty pathetic when trying to map water usage events to appliances/faucets/toilets in my own experience. If that's what you want out of it, I would not recommend it.

But, it does track the water usage (even if it sucks at mapping it properly). In the first year, it's successfully caught toilets running on multiple occasions and a tap that was left on by one of my kids. It called me on the phone to shut off the water just as it was supposed to. I've also had zero issues with connectivity - I know other folks have had issues with this, but I haven't.

For false positives, yes it does throw them. It's generally happened only where the water usage is pretty abnormal/atypical, like taking a long shower at night (when I don't normally do that) or watering some plants for an extended period of time, or washing my car. While those are false positives, it's something I'm happy it detected, because those are the exact types of things I would want it to detect if there was an actual leak. It does give you a call on the phone 5 minutes before it's going to shut off the water as a heads up, which is nice. If there is a false positive and you have your phone on you, that gives you a chance to keep the water running and ignore the alert.

There is a manual valve on the unit that you can turn if the power/wifi goes out.

I'm short, the detailed water usage monitoring sucks, but the Flo has done it's job for me in shutting off the water when it needs to and has been reliable.

At that price.. slickflow going outta business before it starts.
i mean - he's supposedly getting an $80 markup after BOM, so at scale, it should be far less, and overseas manufacturring.

What's wrong with everyone's homes where they have issues with water not shutting off? When I go on vacation, simply flip the breaker for the well pump. Very simple. Thank God I have a well and have incredible tasting water that is filtered by the greatest filter in the world, the earth.

If you think well water is magically filtered and contaminant free, you're delusional.

Their (Moen) sump pump monitor is an unreliable POS. The software is super janky.

Yeah our well water was also awesome tasting. Until we found out it had radon , arsenic and coliform bacteria. I question the earths ability to filter but it did taste great.

Do these work with tankless water heaters, I have seen a few that don't work with them.

I had to redo the line coming into our house anyway so I added one of these. I like it so far. It does give me some peace of mind.

I've had this in use since July 2020, I've been very happy with it. Had it installed with a bypass should anything go wrong with it. I may also buy the zooz mechanical shutoff controller to control the very first valve coming into the house that is before this one. I know, I know, that is crazy, but shoot, why not. I prefer the Moen to monitor and be able to shut off based on flow and not only rely on leak sensors. But having the zooz also will protect if the Moen devices malfunctions.

Of course it's easy, cut and connect. But yolink has one doesn't require cutting.

Which one? I see most of yolink requires cutting.
