In case it helps this coupon is not excluded from previous coupon users (I bought this at $25 last time, and I'm trying to resist buying another until I actually hook up the one I have 😛) note this accepts up to 512 GB cards and will record in qhd 24/7. Tp-link helpfully has a list of how long (in hours) various capacities will hold at: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/3048/ (QHD is typically 4MP)

Do not buy. They fail to connect most times. You will get alerts but won't be able to view anything. I bought five of these and regret ever since. Customer service, after I provided multiple logs agreed that their app is the issue but they can't help. Bunch of crap

I agree, the connection failures, delays, missed recordings, resetting gateways etc. Is a nightmare with these. Glad I got the 15 dollar deal on it and only use it as a pet cam now

yep, all cameras are updated but its still a hot mess. On the other hand, 7 year old kasa cameras work brilliantly. These Tapo ones are just junk.

I have one of them installed next to my old Eufy cam. I can tell the Wi-Fi on the Eufy is way better

I totally agree. I have Eufy cameras too and they perform much better from connectivity perspective but their image quality is not that great. I have noticed that their outdoor cameras get hazy with time as dust and dirt gets in.

Agreed. I have eufy and arlo also which are both better with rarely an issue on connection. I want to replace the arlo ones and bought the tapo just to test as they are cheaper than others but think I will go with eufy ptz cameras instead

The video quality on the Tapo better than the Eufy especially at night. Since I can't return it, I'm going to install MoCa in the room above the garage cuz that's where the both cameras are installed.

are all Tapo cameras have the same issue?

I'm waiting for a deal on the E340. I noticed the battery/ solar panel models don't have the 3-second pre-recording.
This is my setup right now. The one on the left is Chris Eufy 2 pro battery , but connected to the garage door opener outlet. So I don't have to charging, and the one on the right is the Tapo . Both are connected to a TP-link 9 plus mesh system in the room above the garage.

I agree, I had old Kaza outdoor cams that never had connection problems and they still work, albeit the video quality is much better with these Tapo cams due to the Starlight sensor, but what's the point of better quality video if you can rarely connect. I'm guessing it's not just software but the hardware (wifi connection hardware) on these cams are just trash!

Good to see (not in a negative way) that others have experienced the same issues as me because the customer service and technical department at Tapo just brushed their hands off the problem and said that its something they cannot help with it despite confirming in an email that its their app that sucks at basic function.
