I dunno about the surge part of it but as a UPS, it's 90 percent okay. For some reason it will just switch to battery (no issues with line voltage) and just run dead. Other times when we test runtime (just pull line) itwill just shut off drawing just 40watts in hour 2. 3rd one we tried. They all have these weird issues that happen in a blue moon. Don't use it for anything critical and it's a fine UPS.

yeah I've used it for that! so long as it's under 300 watts. mine was about ~100 watts
