I actually jumped on this deal yesterday and got lucky with Open Box Excellent for $430.99. I wonder if the Open Box prices are YMMV...

They had $499 deals a month after releasing the M2 Mac Mini. This is nothing special.

The M4 Mac Mini will be out by the end of the year, most likely for the same starting price. It should be 40-50% more powerful.

The big question is will they bump the base ram and storage. It's not 2018, 8G of ram and 256G of storage is unacceptable in 2024.

you can get $499 + $100 gift card if you got it from apple education store.

256 sucks, but you can get a 2TB + thunderbolt M2 adapter which should also perform better than the internal SSD anyway.

The new AI stuff on Sequoia is gonna run like crap on less than 12GB ram.. I was all over this deal until I discovered the truth about Sequioa. I will wait till there are more options with at least 12GB

It's ok for a little desktop. Sadly Apple is stingy with ram, and the storage runs at slow speeds, but good replacement for grandma

Since the M2 chip supports 2160p this fits the bill for a box I can stream Plex to for my 85" TV.

I use the m1 mac mini and it's flawless for 4k remux. But if you don't have the m1, this is a fantastic buy for plex. I use a sabrient 10 bay as well.
