Keep in mind that once the trial subscription is over, you can't arm/disarm the alarm via the app. I found that to be ridiculously stupid. It's just another way for them to charge you more.
You were probably grandfathered in.... It seems at some point they started charging for "digital access and notifications" in 2023.... Lots of people complaining about it via a quick Google search.
I have this and don't pay and I can arm and disarm via app. Not sure why the other post says he can't.

After further research maybe mine is grandfathered in. It does seem you need a plan to use app features. Sorry!

Thanks for sharing this. I had this system wish listed waiting for a sale because I thought monitoring and video was the only thing you paid for (neither I need)..... Now knowing the subscription is needed for arm and disarm on the app, no thanks.

I think you're right. I've had mine since 2021. That really sucks. That's one of the best features of not having to pay.

FWIW you can buy multiple sets and just pair the sensors with one base station, if it make sense to buy 2 or 3 combos rather than piecemeal a system, but only one base station per address.

Thinking about getting Ring monitoring to save some money (coming from ADT). Two quick questions for those who have Ring:
(1) How is the Cellular Backup? Do they use ATT or Verizon or depending on location?
(2) The Pro Version requires using their (crappy) eero mesh router as the only/primary router, correct? So for those with a more advanced mesh system set up already, it is better to go with this non-pro version?

Thanks so much!

That's not true. You can still do that via the app for free. You just don't get monitoring and no cloud storage
Look at my attachment. Any additional comment?

Does anyone know whether the hardware in the deal are gen 1 or gen 2? Tried to find the answer on the amazon page but wasn't able to. TIA

Edit: Looks like it's gen 2 based on the form factor, at least for the contact sensors anyway.

Definitely 2nd generation hardware. I have a 2nd gen Ring system already, but my apartment came with some 1st gen contact sensors pre-installed by the previous owner. I ended up using the 1st gen contact sensors in my 2nd gen system to avoid having to reinstall them. The 1st gen motion sensors and keypad also look completely different.

I'm now looking at a second Ring system for my in-laws. Not sure what to do with two keypads though.

While this is a pretty good deal...think about the things that you'll need for YOUR house. This is 14 pieces...but a lot of that is door sensors, 2 motion sensors, and 2 panels. Do you need all those door sensors...or do you need more? Do you need a 2nd panel? I think you have 45 seconds to shut it off, how fast can you get to it from any of your doors? ...or you could just use the app to turn it off.

There's a few things that I'd also pick up that aren't included:

Glass Break sensor
Panic Button for the bedroom
Smoke detector listener
Outdoor Stick up Cams
Twist mounts for cameras so you don't have to drill, just attach to gutters
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1

The 5 Piece and 8 Piece are also on sale, and will be for Prime Days. So see if it's cheaper to put together your own package that perfectly matches your house. (I think 5 piece is @$100 now, but check SD)

We actually just set up the system a month ago (monitored) and it really does work well. No issues so far, and you get 7 days to "practice" before the police are actually called for an alarm, and 30 days to try out the alarm. And the system is super easy to set up. The items are just a few things I'd pick up when putting together your system.

As stated above some of us are grandfathered in and didn't realize this was a thing. I stayed away from rings cameras because of the forced subscription model but still got the alarms kit since it really didn't need one at the time. If I was buying now I would stay away from Ring.

Multiple entrances? I have a number of keypads in our house. Battery life is surprisingly long, too.

I went with Ring for security because I already had various Ring cameras and didn't need yet another app to fool around with. So far the system is great.
