I was not already a Verizon customer. I picked the lowest-cost plan ($75 w/o autopay) when ordering the phone on Best Buy web site. When I picked up the phone, a Verizon SIM was attached to the box, without any kind of instructions to activate. But I got some helpful info from member ProudToBeAnIdian on how to proceed. Here's how it went.
* I created a Verizon account on Verizon web site. They asked for my name, address, email, etc but the SS# and DL info were already provided when ordering through Best Buy in order for Verizon to check my credit. Then it asked me to provide my new Verizon phone number or accout number. I checked "I'lll do it later", then logged out.
* I put the SIM in an unlocked old phone (because I want to sell the Pixel 8 as new-in-box). The SIM was automatically activated and assigned a new Verizon phone number.
* I logged back into my VZ account and linked the new phone number to the account. I looked at a preview of the 1st bill and it was $126.86 including taxes & fees and $35 activation fee. Each month after that is $81.37. Damn, they're expensive for just one line.
* I selected Chat while logged in, told the bot that I wanted to cancel service, it gave me the option to cancel service myself or via a rep, I chose to do it myself WHICH WAS A BAD DECISION. The bot submitted the cancel request but said service would be disconnected on Aug 17, that means I have to pay the full 1st month. That's NOT what I wanted.
* I started a new Chat and asked for "Agent". A live agent connected (without a name, let's assume it was a female) and asked what I needed. I told her that I wanted to cancel because the VZ signal is so weak at my location. She wanted to try some trouble shooting first. I said OK. She told me to do a Network Reset on the phone and let her know if it got better. I did the reset and told her that I still got only 1 bar with VZ but the same phone got 4 bars with T-mo. She said she needed to get a supervisor to cancel the pending request that the bot submitted.
* After 5 minutes or so, she said she got the pending request deleted and was ready to cancel service right away. I asked her to proceed which she did. After that, my account showed service disconnected and the bill preview showed an expected bill of $7.56 (for one day of service + taxes & fees I guess). Since the account shows No Payment Method On File, I guess they'll mail me a bill, but I plan to log in after a few days and pay the bill online if I can.

I hope all that was helpful to someone.
The issues with the phone come with cellular usage. The modem is weak, so it doesn't latch on to 5G very well in low coverage area. The phone keeps on getting warm and loses battery rather rapidly. Also in general, the Tensor thermals are poor. So on a hot day in the car, the phone will overheat even when used normally to do VOIP calls, play music etc without even using GPS. If using GPS, it is even worse.

Unfortunately the first thing that the Pixels do on overheating is shut down the cellular signal. The phone is then totally crippled until you switch it off and let it cool down. Had some rough experiences on the road with the phone overheating and needing to shut it down and having to disconnect calls.

On a cool day or while being indoors with strong wifi signal, the phone will do well. It is otherwise pretty smooth with great software. All in all, a nice phone with excellent software is hampered badly by a mediocre processor with awful thermals and a very inferior modem.
If you plan to use the phone for yourself, I would honestly wait till Pixel 10 where the processor would be TMSC based vs the current Tensor projected to be used in Pixel 9.

I have the Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel 8 Pro both. Google's Tensor G2/G3 is significantly inferior to the Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip in terms of performance, thermals and battery life. To add insult to injury, the model in the Pixel phones is by Samsung and really does a bad job in low signal areas and with 5G. So you have the phone with weak signal, constantly overheating and losing battery.

Google always has trade in deals where they give a lot of $$ for older iphones but very little $$ for their own Pixels. So I'm sure you will find similar deals with Pixel 9 as well. Keep in mind the Pixel 9 is 6.03" screen size, so smaller than the Pixel 8.

The post from carceron is confusing to me. It's not clear to me if a $300 coupon/GC was given back as part of the refund (instead of card credit) or carceron brought in a $300 GC. Neither I or the Best Buy had to enter the GOOGLE code.
Hpham, I can't think of a scenario in which an employee would need to enter a coupon code for a customer to REDEEM a gift card. If carceron was doing that, the gc would just be entered as an alternative form of payment, no code required.

In addition to the code requirement, the fact that carceron describes that he/she "got" a gift card "...instead of a card credit" seems to imply that this wasn't the process described in the original post and reported back by countless people in the thread.

Yes, Randall, an in-store order; I was just suggesting an alternative thing to try while you were on-site in case they didn't want to honor your original order.

I placed an online order last Saturday (no carrier, trade in iPhone11). My local Best Buy was out of Pixel 8 at that time so I selected to have the Pixel shipped to the local store for pickup this Friday 7/26. With the deal being reported as DEAD, I hope BB still honors the $415 trade-in for my order. I'll report back on Friday evening. At least the pending order still shows $415 trade-in as of now.

I sure don't want a $300 Best Buy GC instead of a refund to my credit card. I rarely buy anything at Best Buy (online or in-store).

Just got back from Best Buy about an hour ago and go one out the door including $75 iPhone 11 trade in from metro $34+75= total cost is $109 plus whatever they prorate me with Verizon. Speaking of that, anyone know if they made me the Verizon login when I was there or I still have to make an account? I know I picked my number but I only say the area code and first three digits.

I just successfully did it in Ohio, the trade in value shows $115 for iPhone 11 but it's a Google promo for the other $300. I had to do a little posturing as they were looking for any reason to get out. Like trying to mansplain every facet of the deal to me, when I didn't know how to explain the situation but I held my ground and blamed it on the Best Buy support online because they accidentally ordered me a unlocked one, however I made it clear in the chat I wanted the cheaper Verizon one and they said that when I get in store they will take care of that. So they did just that.So in store they even went as far as to re do the whole transaction. So I technically have another of the same deal on my Best Buy account still, I'm supposed to cancel it. I'm debating just using another one of my iPhones 11's for it.

Also just so everyone knows, I went with a metro and a total Verizon iPhone 11 because I wasn't sure which model number would pass or match up cause I could find neither of the exact devices in the list. But the T-mobile black 128gb iPhone 11 on the list for trade ins has the same model number as the 64gb metro pcs iPhone 11.

Can confirm, my Best Buy worker asked me what the 300 deal was because I didn't know exactly and then he eventually had a epiphany and was like " oh it's a $300 google promo, that's right." Also, I see people mentioning a gift card, they did in fact pull out a gift card. I never touched it, he was flying through things and was using two different signing pads, one of which he swiped the what I'm assuming was a $300 gift card on.

I did the Verizon deal in-store last Thursday. I created the Verizon account after getting home, using my email address as ID. It asked to link a phone number or Verizon account number to the login, I selected "I'll do it later". I then put the SIM into a phone (not the Pixel), turned it on and the SIM was activated. I found the phone number in About Phone and logged back in to link the number to my Verizon account. After you've done that, click on the Chat button in the lower-right corner to ask a rep to cancell your Verizon service if you don't want to stay with them.

Thank you I found exactly what you are talking about, and I'm here but one more question did we make an account pin?

I just looked at the screenshots of my order last Thursday. Yes, during the ordering process Verizon did ask me to pick an account PIN, and I had to enter it along with other info to link my new Verizon phone number to my Verizon account. See attachments below.

That's correct as far as I know.
So if I order today (online with VZ service) and pickup tomorrow, will I get charged 2 days of VZ service? Asking bc my store closes soon.
