Have both P7 and P8. Yes, the P8 is slightly more comfortable... has HDMI output (finally)... and longer software support.

Still, unless I absolutely needed HDMI output, I wouldn't upgrade. And if I needed that, I wouldn't have bought a P7 in the first place.

There's no way the low-RAM version of Gemini on the standard P8 is worth the upgrade. It literally does nothing worth that today.

Not sure if this will help you. My fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 7a was pretty bad too. I saw a recommendation online, to add a few fingerprints, but to just use the same finger for all of them. Maybe try that. It's made my fingerprint scanner much more reliable.

I remember a few years ago, people could upgrade from a Pixel 6 to Pixel 7 for $20. that was a steal. too bad they dont have such an offer anymore

My P7 battery has become so bad after a year and half of use. I'm contemplating uploading for that alone.

thanks OP. My P7 was struggling to maintain a call.. kept on flipping from 5G to LTE the last month. I finally got fed up and traded it in today. Wanted to wait for the P9.. but $239 and tax free week sealed the deal for now.

Just did this on monday trading in a 12 pro (valued as 530). I had an iphone 12 pro laying around so i traded it in and ended up paying 31 bucks total with tax for a Pixel 8 128gb!

Google just had a deal where you could trade in a 7 Pro for $600 off an 8 Pro plus you got an 8a for half price. After selling the 8a my out of pocket for the 8 Pro was $32

Personally, I don't use it, but I also haven't heard anyone say it's way better either.

I still daily drive a Pixel 5 (via LineageOS 21, which also imports driver blobs from Pixel 5a), which has the best sensor on a Pixel yet.
Thanks. My favorite was Pixel 4's face unlock feature. Almost never had a miss. Worked in a dark room too.

I might have to try that. Pixel 7's touch sensors cannot tackle my usually too dry hands.

Strange, my 7 is excellent. The only time it fails is when I've got grease (from working on bike) on the fingers, and even then it usually works if I do a quick wipe off. And I've got a screen protector on it as well...
You're lucky. My hands are usually too dry and my Pixel 7's touch sensor cannot handle that.

How is the fingerprint sensor in 8? Mine on 7 is completely garbage.
The fingerprint issue with the 7 can be improved if you set it up right. Lots of YT videos.

Same problem. I'm on pixel 8 right now and the finger print reader is kind of meh. It's like that on any phone with the finger print reader on the screen. Older versions of pixels had a dedicated finger print reader and those were very consistent IMO.
