So tempted, I just don't wanna buy and Yamaha drops new cx which I've been waiting for, should have gotten cx-a5200 when it was available for a decent price

I bought it last time it was sale here, aura 3d is really good for music. I could have waited for A6A for $300 less as my setup is 5.1.4 but I was waiting for far too long. No regrets though.

Does this do 5.2.4? And does 11.2 on any receiver mean you can do 5.2.4? I wasn't able to find information about this online

At this price very unlikely you would hear a difference worth the extra cost in my experience.

Yes on the 5.2.4 and can also do 7.2.4/5.2.6
Not every avr can do 4 atmos channels, some older ones dont even support atmos and early ones cant set more than 2 atmos channels. Anything modern should be fine, say past 2016.

i have a mid-range system, 5 emotiva amps(3 xpa-1 on front stage, upa-500 and basx-800 on the rears and atmos). Speakers are rf-7 iii/rc-64 iii up front, 4 in-wall thx8000 in rear and 4 rp-500 for atmos

Yes this offers two pairs of object based placements(front & rear presences).

If the receiver decodes object based codecs, it should give you object based playback.
Most of these mid level receivers only offer up to two pairs, lower level only one pair.

I don't think this offer 3 pairs of object based placements, only up to two.

This would be fine/plenty, biggest difference imo are the XLRs.
No way they are worth the extra cost with your setup imo.
