I did this with mine when I got it through the Verizon deal a year or so ago… already had one claim for a bumper working inconsistently. Easy peasy process. Just a note if y'all want to avoid Walmarts warranty.
And this is all within a few months of purchasing a new controller. I've definitely never gotten a new one back from them, and I'm not even sure they're doing more than dusting it off and sending it straight back to me.
