If you are a Costco member, check your local store. I just picked up the Kirkland brand for 9.99

What are you assuming is put in vanilla extract that wouldn't be natural? It's vodka and vanilla beans. If you consider vodka "natural", then yes.

For reference, Kirkland (Costco brand) online price is $16.99 for 16 oz (in store price may be different). Wellsley Farms (BJ's brand) is $11.99 for 16 oz. Prices are still about double what they were before the vanilla bean destruction in Madagascar, caused by a cyclone in 2017.

Imitation vanilla is the slick move at this point. Real vanilla used to be worth the extra $, but now it's 10-15x the price of imitation because of supply problems. I vaguely remember there being a select few instances where extract is still best, but not worth it, for your typical baked goods.

Some use imitation vanilla extract.

Kirkland signature is pure vanilla, just like this.
You bring up a good point. It's good to check and make sure you are getting the real stuff (not imitation vanilla). It is usually marked clearly on the front of the package.

False. Imitation is full of chemicals. Never a good move.

In store Costco brand is 9.99 here.

Is that really double what it was? 2 years ago it was $30+ for 16 oz.
