Auto defrost works by heating the freezer to defrost....

So food lasts longer and doesn't get freezer burn as quickly if you have a manual defrost freezer that doesn't do that heating cycle.

Shipping for freezers suck. I ordered similar size freezers twice from Home Depot and both times they came severely dented. One time was local delivery and the other time was FedEx.

YW! I think this deal is super slick, especially for a "garage ready" refrigerator -> freezer!

Did I read this right that, this shorty is only 4'8" high. Any similarly-priced deals on taller models?

Reason for upright is to maximize floor-space. Reason for chest-freezer is to maximize price and efficiency.

Also waiting to hear why you want manual defrost
Auto defrost works buy running a heater to melt the frost. That causes the food to get that freezer "burn". In a deep freezer you can store meat for years vs a few months in a defrost

Bought this the last time it came around (might have been 7.5 cu ft model) and installed it in garage. No issues, no problems, works like a champ in the insanely hot garage. One cool thing we noticed is our model will create a vacuum each time you shut the door. So, even if you barely close it - either by design or maybe it's the temp differential - the door will 'suck' itself closed tight as a drum.

This thing is also very light so it tends to want to come with you when you tug on the door with one hand.

Also, just remember, if you transport this on its side for whatever reason, make sure you let it stand upright for a good 24 hours (if possible) to let the compressor settle before running it.

I have a new 7cu foot version of this brand from sams club. It uses .778kw of electricity a day. About $7 in electricity at my rate. The sams club one has clear bucket shelves that pull out.
$7 bucks a day! Same for this listing? Anyone know if the chest freezer will be better,

Anyone successful in getting a delayed delivery? It only gives next day delivery and I won't be around to take it in.

Ordered one and waiting for shipment but should we leave this upright for 24 hours before powering on considering all the shipping and denting nightmare stories?

This feels like a wild # to me. Last time I ran calculations on a larger and more powerful freezer it was about $9/month to use.

Funny, it's a huge yes for me. Food lasts longer and doesn't freezer burn as quickly since it doesn't heat for the defrost cycles. You do you.

Just make sure you know what you're buying. This is not a regular sized freezer. It's about half size.

Bought it a month or so at this price and worth it. As stated is small but old lady likes it better than the chest freezer.

My only complaint with this freezer is that the door closes so tight, and the small size makes the freezer relatively light even when full, that when I open the door sometimes it pulls the whole freezer forwards. Does anybody have advice on how to prevent that?

Generally we're very happy with it! Reasonably energy-efficient (of course not as good as a chest freezer) and while it's smaller than a full size freezer, it's still a huge improvement over just having what's in our upstairs refrigerator. I plan to order the similar small fridge when the October sale begins.
