RX 6550m is about the same performance as an RTX 3050, but lower wattage.

Not a bad thing, at $450 this is a nice budget option for someone who wants to pc game on the go and is OK with turning settings down

Just needs a Ram upgrade and it would be a nice gaming laptop at low to medium 1080 gaming.

Would need a 2nd stick of ram but should be a steady 80ish FPS on Fortnite at lowest settings...
I think you'd be able to run more around 120 most of the time, with dips down to 80...

Holy crap, over 5 lbs? It has to be a typo or the shipping weight.

laptops never got light, especially not gaming laptops. The fact that 13"/14" are still around 3lbs means I'll stick with my tablet for mobile computing.

I bought a 15.6" one a year ago at 3.7 lbs. It's not a gaming laptop but over an extra pound for a graphics card? I'm no expert but I wouldn't want to lug that thing around.

Pretty typical really. The whole thing has to be made thicker and heavier to accommodate the cooling, then it needs a bigger battery to power it, then it needs more heavyass copper for heatsinks and pipes. Adds up quickly. I agree with you though, generally.

Yeah, I have an Acer Nitro gaming laptop, and I regret it for its weight as someone who ended up not using it much for gaming. Similar to this, it was just a really good deal, and I initially liked having the possibility. I quickly realized playing modern PC games on a small screen is awful, I already have consoles for TV stuff, and no extra desk space for an external monitor.

I'm not in the market for a new laptop but if i was this would be a good deal imo. Just add a matching 8GB ram and this'll be a really good value imo.

I agree, the idea of having a gaming laptop is awesome for the flexibility. But reality hits when you end up playing games on the TV or home desktop, but have to chug this heavy laptop w/ the bigger power adapter is no fun. Gaming on a 17" laptop is hard already, going down to 15 or 14" is just not ideal. Especially when ur desktop setup has at least a 27", with many having uw 34".

They have uses for some people, like I know people who use a small gaming laptop as they travel for work. They usually connect it to a hotel TV and use a controller. It's powerful enough to do work stuff on the go when needed, and do that. I also knew someone who traveled and lived in a van for weeks, gaming laptops have lower power draw and produce less heat, and are small, so good for that. During the days of insane video card prices, they were far better deals than desktops too.

But yeah, I think for most people they're a bad compromise.

Playing old games like UT99 or Diablo 2 are fine on a 15 inch screen, but there's something about newer, high-res games that make them require a bigger screen (relative to distance) to enjoy. Same goes for consoles. I generally play 4-5 feet away from the screen with a controller. For Xbox 360/PS3, a 32 inch TV was great for this. For Xbox One and beyond, anything smaller than 50 inches feels like I have to strain my eyes to enjoy playing from a distance.

I got a new one and an excellent open box. I'll decide which one to keep based on the open box condition.
