Until Dewalt redesigns the filter there is no perfect solution. 1. You can use a brush to clean the pleats, but it's time consuming. 2. You can spray water with a hose inside the filter, but then must let it dry fully before using again. 3. You can use an air compressor to blast out the dust, but you'll inhale it at the same time. 4. You can cut a sheet of craft foam to wrap around as a pre-filter and use rubber bands to hold it on.
That said, the suction with a clean filter is excellent. The included tools are durable and convenient.
