Extra 2% bonus for making a purchase on November 7th with your BoA credit card. Up to $2500 spend for $50 extra cash back or similar for point based credit card. If you already have the 5.25% for bonus category, this means 7.25% total cash back.

Have it in my calendar to make a $2,500 tax payment at payusatax.com.

Using my BofA unlimited cash card and platinum rewards, that's 4.625% cash back and only a 1.82% payment fee.

That's about $70. Plus I still have 0% promo interest rate until October, since it's a new card.
It's not that exciting. This is essentially up to a $50 rebate on $2500+ spend. Not worth it for most people to go out of their way and time their purchases around this bonus.
But it does stack with preferred rewards.

You won't get a bonus on the 2%, but you will still get your bonus on the card as usual.

If you have customized cash platinum rewards and haven't used your $2500 spend limit for the quarter on your chosen category, that can be 7.25% cash back!

3% - custom category base reward
2.25% - platinum rewards bonus
2% - rewards day bonus

Unfortunately, I already used my $2500 spend for the quarter, so the unlimited cash is a better choice for me.

Which category do you use for that card for tax payment? Online purchase?

I believe they specifically excluded that category last year when they ran this special.

Best thing I ever did was close my 20yr old account at BOA. What a crap company they have become.

Where did you go? If you don't mind me asking? Thinking of the same.

does anyone know whether buying costco e-gfitcard would work? meaning whether they charge on the same day. I know physical card won't work because it would be shipped later

If I have preferred rewards at 5.25% internet purchases, will this extra 2% make me money buying Costco gold?

No, it will be in email. You can use it in store or online but cannot use at gas pump.

No.

First, Costco gold costs more than the $2500 spend limit. You'll only get the 2% on the first $2500.

Second, you have a $2500 spend limit per quarter on the 5.25%. You've probably already used a chunk of that.

Third, Costco gold may not be available on Nov 7. You could buy an e gift card though and wait for gold to be available.

There is no category for tax payments. This is the unlimited card, not the customized cash card.

The unlimited card doesn't have category based bonuses.

You are right with all those presumed conditions, but that does not make it not having 7.25% unless my math is wrong on calculating the total cash back.
