10,000 points = $100
what amount of points (define as X) * 150% = 10,000?
1.5X = 10,000 --> X = 10,000/1.5 = 6,667
with 50% bonus, $100 = 6,667 points, a savings of 3,333 points (10,000 - 6,667)
3,333/10,000 = 33%, or a 33% savings
said another way:
normally $1 = 100 points, but with the 50% further $1 = 100/1.5 = 66 points
Old Price = 100 Points
New Price = 66 Points
Change = (New price - Old price) / Old Price = (66 - 100) / 100 = -33/100 = -33%

The Sapphire Preferred "only" costs $95, but the Freedom Unlimited is free and also gives you 3X back on dining, why on Earth would you get the Preferred if you don't travel? Meanwhile, other card families also do well here.
Citi has a free card that will give you 5X back on ANY category (whatever you spend most on) up to $500. They have another card that will give you 2X back on every single dollar you spend. Neither have any annual fee. Amex also has free cards with dining multipliers, grocery multipliers, and some even offer things like credits for certain spending (e.g., I get a $7 rebate on my Disney+ package each month). Hell even the Costco card makes sense if this is your spending pattern. 3X on dining, 4X on gas, 2X at Costco and no annual fee. Some combination of these cards is highly likely to do better for you than a travel card that you do not use the main benefits for.
Again, why on Earth would you get the Preferred if you don't travel? The benefits of this card are for traveling. When you transfer to travel partners and are able to get 3-10 cents per point in value is when the card makes sense. You'd have to spend an absurd amount to make the marginal 25% boost on specific offers that you aren't even promised make sense.
I own the Sapphire Reserve card, as well as the Freedom and Freedom Unlimited. I know well how they work together and I travel more than a little. They make sense for me because I travel. They do not make sense when you don't.
I never said "I don't travel"
I have all the cards. you mention above except the the Citi card that gives 500 plus some. We use Costco for most of our fuel purchases and my Credit Score is in the top 4%. So again, I am sure you intended well with your original post but don't spread mis information. If someone can afford the Sapphire preferred card and has enough points, it's their choice to spend points on what makes sense to them. Don't assume that what works for you works for everyone.
Again, my intent is not to hurt your ego so we can let this rest here.
First, 10% off is better than a 10% bonus. 10% off means it only takes 90,000 points for $1000 item. 10% bonus takes ~90,800 points.
Additionally, buying gift cards lets you buy directly from Apple where returns are allowed etc. Avoid the third party portal.

10% off is pretty common with other retailers? Target and BB gives $10 gift card for $100 Apple GC
I was thinking about getting one too, 16Pro, I have Preferred. Roughly how many points did you pay for the 16Pro? Thanks in advance,
Roughly 81k points for 256GB pro with taxes.

At the end of the day, I remain unconvinced that you even understand the value of these points, much less implement them efficiently. Even to your actual example, you're bragging about a 1.5X pt per dollar spent that you then redeem with a 1.25% multiplier by shifting it to the Preferred. That's 1.875 points per dollar in value. The Citi Double Cash card will literally give you a straight 2X back IN CASH to spend on whatever you want, with no limit. On a FREE CARD! The Custom Cash card will give you 5X back on your first $500 for ANY single category. On a FREE CARD! You are falling for a gimmick because you feel like you got a free iphone or ipad, but you could have had literal cash back in excess of what those items are worth, without paying a dime for the credit card that provides it.
It's not a matter of whether you will recoup your $95, it's a matter of whether you would have done even better with a different card combination. Read that sentence again, because it's the key to this whole situation. In this scenario, specifically that you describe, a user would have gotten a better result from a FREE card! This will do better for non-travelers or low-travelers in the long run. It's a DUMB approach if you don't travel, you HAVE to get better multipliers for it to make sense.
I just got 3 cents per point via transferring the points to Hyatt.
And >10 cents per point with a business class airfare redemption.
If you're not into travel, then collecting Chase points is, indeed, pretty dumb... there's just no mincing words on it, particularly when -- as shhaggy rightly noted -- there are several cards that'll give you straight 2% cashback or more!
