I'm looking to replace my Gateway Creator Series that I got on Black Friday in 2020 (4 years is a good time for a laptop to last right?). I'm a bit torn between getting a 'lighter' laptop with an AMD iGPU (which are still very capable for light 1080p gaming) or a mid-level, heavier laptop with a dedicated Nvidia 4060 or 4070 GPU.
I figured I'd create a thread about BLACK FRIDAY 2024 because those 2 laptop categories probably cover a significant percentage of people who are looking for gaming laptops. Of course if there is some excellent deal on high end gaming or ultra premium thin and lights feel free to share, but to keep things simple I'm considering 3 basic criteria:
> Price should be less than $1000
> Laptop must have at least 16GB, but ideally 24GB/32GB RAM (yes I know RAM speeds vary greatly but trying to keep it simple)
> Laptop must either have:
an AMD Radeon 780m, 880m or 890m iGPU (basically should either have AMD 8840HS, 8840U, 8845HS, 8945HS or AMD AI 300 Series Processor)
AND/OR
and Nvidia 4060/4070 dedicated GPU (loaded assumption - OEMs will pair an appropriately powered current or previous gen CPU)
Some examples of recent non-BF deals which match these criteria for reference (some are expired deals):
HP Victus with 4070 and 16GB RAM
Lenovo LOQ with 4060 & 16GB RAM for $750
HP Omnibook with AI 9 365/880m iGPU & 32GB RAM for $1000
HP Envy X360 with 8840HS/780m iGPU & 16GB RAM for $600
Dell Inspiron 16 with 8840U/780m iGPU & 16GB RAM for $550
Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 with 8845HS/780m iGPU & 16GB RAM for $520
(The AMD 8945HS seems to almost always be paired with a dedicated GPU which pushes the price past $1000. The cheapest I could find was the Asus ROG G14 with the 8945HS/780m iGPU + 4060 & 16GB RAM for $1100)
(AMD AI 9 HX 370 seems to be out of this range for now - 890m iGPU paired with 32GB RAM)
