Best Buy offers a discount for nearly every new Apple product release for plus/total members similarly to the Apple edu discount so it's not a bad sign.

Dammm what's with 256 gb ssd space? Did an iPhone backup/restore and my computer with 512gb ssd did not have enough space

Apple just bumped the RAM up to 16GB from 8GB, and they kept the price the same. That is a much more important upgrade than the storage, because RAM can not be upgraded later, but storage can always be expanded by using external drives.

External drives work great, and you can get as much storage space as you need for much cheaper than paying for larger internal storage. You can go cheap and just get a slow USB external, or you can spend a little more, but still much cheaper than Apple internal storage. and get Thunderbolt 4 or USB 4 storage, which is much faster. Or you can get both, which is what I use.

As a Total member, I get 2 YR AppleCare+ for FREE, but 60 days return (although Holiday returns are in effect now).
As a BB Card customer, they offer 24 months interest free on this if over $699.

Apple products dont honor those return periods. If you dont spend too much these $200 memberships are pretty much wasted.

Llama 3.2 runs okay in M3 air with 8 gigs. Making it write a 1000 word essay put pressure on the memory. Everything else makes it crawl. Gemma 2 got the whole thing hung. Don't expect any magic with 16GB. But LLama 3.2 should run fine.

I'd think it depends on what you want to use it for. 8GB Ram is pretty low, so might not even be worth it at 299, or it could be perfect for someone who only does light web-surfing or similar.

I just need a machine to build thr iOS version of my .Net Maui app. Is this overkill? I will never used otherwise and will probably run headless just using RDP and/or a build pipeline.
