If the failure is complete lack of power, the culprit is undoubtedly the thermal fuse, the weak point of all these Breville appliances. We've had our Breville BOV800XL for at least a dozen years, and I just wired in a new thermal fuse a few days ago for the fourth time. I've also had controls get wonky, which thankfully can be resolved by cleaning the PCB with alcohol, much like you might do with a remote control. These aren't trivial repairs, so you need to be handy, but there are plenty of good posts and videos online showing you what to do.

We've had one of these for 2 years. We rarely turn on our standard electrical oven. It takes up a lot of counter space but it's honestly worth it.

Most major retailers currently have the same sale price. Check cashback websites for additional cashback. Macy's has 15% cashback and the same sale price plus $10 in Macy's cash for every $50 spent up to a maximum of $40.

So you could buy it for $299.95 with free shipping and get 44.99 cashback and $40 in Macy's cash to spend later.

PayPal payment using Chase Freedom would offer another 5% cashback on the sale price.

How does this model compare with the ninja xl on sale ?https://slickdeals.net/f/17988069-plus-total-members-ninja-foodi-10-in-1-smart-xl-air-fry-convection-oven-130-free-shipping?attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1
Is it that much better to pay double for?
I like my Breville even though I balked when my wife asked for this sheet metal hotbox that feels like any other sheet metal toaster oven, because of the price.
One of my considerations was design/control location. As you can see with the Ninja, all the controls and electronics seem to be on top, where the heat travels. This may or may not affect its longevity. But then again, folks are reporting a 3 year life on the Breville (I'm not there yet, 2 more years). In that time, you could have 2 of these Ninjas for less. Guess it depends on your budget.

I love my Breville as it does a lot of my toaster oven tasks significantly better than the cheaper ones. And we use our actual oven way less which we've only had to use once since getting the Breville versus the dozen or so times we normally use the oven.

Interesting. That brings it to about 225.00 + tax plus Macy's cash. My only thing is I now have the mini Breville and think this new bigger one is too big for where it would need to go.

Reading Amazon reviews is a down also. So many people (when filter by most recent) have issues with it...makes it kind of scary to order.

Huh? 15% cashback brings it down to $255, not $225.

I'm also not sure what reviews you're talking about. Most of the recent Amazon reviews are very favorable. The recent 1 star reviews mostly refer to shipping damage so if anything it would be important to buy it from a retailer with easy returns and exchanges.

Read thru them and read about the first 50. Filter by 'newest'. I don't order much of anything on Amazon unless the reviews are at least 4.7. With these reviews, too many people had issues. You may want to chance it and that's fine but when spending that much money I want to make sure it a excellent product. Also read all the posts in this thread. Again, a lot of issues with this oven.

I'm talking about 15 c b. Then 5% Chase cb. I was thinking I had another discount but perhaps not. with 15% cb and 5% for using Chase, it should come out more like 240 + the Macy's cash.

One of the best and most used items in our home. Truly worth it. Spend the money. Stop wondering why or if you'd use it. You will. It's great. All the modes and options are wonderful. Better to use than your big oven. This is my second one and I'll always have a Breville in my home.

We just got the 800 and noticed the hinge is too strong. It slams the door shut and it gets caught on the rack sometimes. Does yours do the same?
I'm not sure. The door stays down when fully open. No problem there. The hinge spring is strong and would slam shut if allowed to, but like any oven, I close it manually. I don't let it slam shut on its own. But I can say that the magnets in the door do sometimes pull the rack out too far, so I've learned to nudge the rack in manually a bit before closing the door to keep the rack from preventing the door from closing.

I have this unit. It's a fantastic toaster oven, but not great as an air fryer. 100% recommend if you're in the market for a toaster oven only, but if you're looking for an air fryer you might be better off with a cheaper basket style air fryer.
Do you specifically use the air fryer tray for air frying? If you put any aluminum foil below the fryer tray or use the pizza tray or the baking tray the air fry doesn't work as well.

Only use the air fryer basket with the netting as it allows air to circulate around the entire unit. My wife used the trays and said the air fryer sucks. I told her she's using it wrong. Using the air fryer tray only works great.

I've had 2 or 3 of the older style non air-fryer versions fan fail after 2-3 years each. I keep using them without the fan which still works fine. I've heard that the air-fryer version has a bigger fan and is less prone to it failing. Those saying your fans failed, was it the air-fryer version or just the standard smart-oven with the little fans?
Non-air fryer version.

In terms of toaster ovens, I have had the Breville for years. It is hands down one of the best.
But if you are looking for an air fryer, this may not be for you.

I have been using this oven for years. I am now on my second unit. The fan died in the first unit.
Except for the fan, it is very well built. You may as well think of it as a smaller version of an oven. In fact, your regular oven will likely become a place to store pots and pans. There are more options than you will ever likely use. And it cooks well.

Having said all that...the air frying capabilities are mediocre, at best. I decided to run this next to one of the Ninja Flip Up units. What I am discovering is that, given the option, I will take air frying over most any other option. The Ninja produces much more air and does so with almost no noise.
The Breville puts out a fraction of the air and sounds like a wind tunnel doing so.
The catch is that you need to learn what temps to cook at with the Ninja. If you cook at the temps that you always have, it will burn whatever you are cooking. Even at lower temps, food cooks faster in the Ninja.
The Breville cooks slower than the Ninja...but it is not slow. It is still a little faster than a normal oven.
The quality of the Ninja air frying is worlds above the Breville. You can actually make decent fries.
I thought that the lower profile of the Ninja might be an issue...but so far it has not been the case.
It is clear that the Ninja is not as sturdy as the Breville. I really do not know if this is just in the casing or if the internals will fail faster too. But, to be fair, it is significantly less expensive.

I am finding that, despite the good service of the Breville, the lack of quality in the air fryer has led to me using the Ninja on a daily basis. The Breville is starting to gather dust. This is why I had them in a side by side .....to determine how much I would really use the sir fryer. And it is significant.
