That's ratings, not reviews, and those ratings are aggregated across multiple TP-Link Kasa products.

When filtered to this product, there are ~39K ratings, and 8.450 reviews.

https://www.amazon.com/Switch-HS2...geNumber=1

Still an impressive number, and a good product for sure, but Amazon deceptively aggregates ratings across multiple products in a product line; filtering them is required to see ratings and reviews associated to the specific product. In this case, it's still good news, but there are other cases where the aggregated ratings can make it appear that a product is well rated and reviewed, when in fact filtering the ratings/reviews tells a different story.

With the house being wired in 2012, it is a near certainty that you have neutral wires. It's been "standard", at least in the US, for 30+ years.

I have one and it works great.
The only cons:
It does rarely lose signal. Not a big issue since you can still manually control it.

Sometimes when I tap it, it does double click it. A bit sensitive sometimes causing the light to turn on/off rapidly.

Got a bunch of these around the house and no issues with connectivity. Just remember, these require a neutral wire

I have a handful of smart switches and got all of them on this brand now. Nothing to complain about and Home Assistant compatible.

Probably a dumb question, but is there any way to know if my switch has a neutral wire without taking off the switch plate? It's in a hard to access place for a gas fireplace (home wired in 2012).

If you can see the wiring jacket and it looks like white or yellow romex cable (not spiral metal BX cable) then you have a neutral wire. Not to mention by 2011 that was code for switches.

If you can't see the cable going into the switch box, go to your breaker box, trace the wire from your breaker for that circuit and identify if it goes into a romex cable or something else.

I got a bit scared of this ominous "neutral wire required" warning myself a few months ago thinking it was talking about some special extra wire but in fact it's just the white wire that needs to be available in the switch box.

My home built in rural MO in 1992 has it and I wired up an HS220 just fine. BTW I paid $14 for the dimmable HS220, not much more than this $11 deal.

I replaced every switch in my house with these in 2021. Zero complaints, although if I was doing it now I would have used more dimmer switches. They are only a couple bucks more and as long as you have dimmable bulbs they work great.

That's your WiFi issue.
None of mine ever lose signal.

THIS! ^ Good post. The dimmer functionality is most definitely worth the extra few bucks if you have the proper bulbs.
