I'm not a gamer myself, but this system is significantly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi without a doubt. There is a Linux distro called Batocera.Linux (https://batocera.org/) that is supposedly a turn-key solution for turning mini pc's like this into gaming consoles. Besides that, this comes with an apparently legit copy of Win 11 Pro as part of the $130 price tag.

Anyway, if your goal is retro gaming, a Raspberry Pi is smaller and more energy-efficient for these types of tasks, but honestly, once you add in a case, a good power supply (RPi's are picky with respect to power...), and storage, it is probably at the same price or even more than this $130 machine. But if you are interested in more modern gaming or more powerful emulation, this system would be better and give you more flexibility for future upgrades.
Fyi check out Reddit minipc forum, some users mention that these effectively have ZERO warranty.

Just saying buyers might want to read up.
N150 is a minor bump-up from N100

While that perception was somewhat deserved at launch, it's an ignorant take 3 1/2 years later - for both consumer and certainly enterprise users.

Did they finally bring back the vertical taskbar in Windows 11 or is it still missing?

And I won't mention all the bloatware, spying, and update issues Windows 11 has...

Nope. I stupidly upgraded my g2 last night and the taskbar can't be moved. I'll be going back to 10 in a day or 2.

Isn't Win10 ending support in October of this year?

That's what I hear. When security updates stop I'll be switching the Nuc & laptop over to Linux. I suppose I should have made the switch yrs ago anyway.

I don't see why not. I use an "old" Intel NUC with pfSense as a router. You'll need to use VLANs and a smart switch with VLAN support because it has only one Ethernet port... I guess you could also try a USB to Ethernet adapter to get more Ethernet ports but I don't think that is generally recommended.

It seems this thing has an Intel i226v 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port which is nice... but then you'd need a more expensive smart switch with 2.5 gigabit capability to take advantage of 2.5 gigabit when using this as a router... but it all depends on your Internet speed... 1 gigabit might be fine (it is for me with my 500/500 Internet connection).

50 cents per kWh? Good God... who pays that much?
Sadly, between 4pm to 9pm, I pay $0.61 per kwh at Southern California with SCE.

They make a dual NIC version currently available for $150 after coupon:

https://www.amazon.com/GMKtec-Mini-Intel-N100-256GB/product-reviews/B0CCDL6VS3/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewo... [amazon.com]

The product listing is suspiciously vague about the NIC hardware though, just referring to "2 x RJ45 Giga LAN Port", which likely means they are the cheaper Realtek NICs rather than Intel NICs which are more preferable for a router.

There is only one Amazon review mentioning the dual NIC box, and the reviewer does mention that the NICs are Realtek, but also that they are working fine in an OPNsense build.

what ram did you go with? I tried this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1 [amazon.com]) and the system doesn't boot. Swap back to the stock ram and everything is good.
I've been thinking about possibly upgrading to 32GB RAM, too. So I've done a little searching, and here's what I've found. Note that these three resources are for the G3, not the G3 Plus, but they seem virtually identical.

1. Kingston KF432S20IB/32 module apparently works. Source could be https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097QJ74WQ. This info came from https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/...gmktec_g3/. By the way, this is a good thread to read as it provides some info about why (or why not) a module may work.

2. Crucial CT32G4SFD832A module apparently works. Source could be https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZLC7VNH. This info came from same thread as above, i.e., https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/...gmktec_g3/

3. Team TED432G3200C22-S01 *may* work. Source could be https://www.newegg.com/team-32gb-...6820331502. This info came from https://hagensieker.com/2024/02/0...g3-review/. Caution, this is sort of indirect... The fellow says it works with a 32GB module, but then does not identify it--even after multiple requests in the comments section. But he does provide a low-res pic with massive jpeg artefacting of the inside of the case with the 32GB module installed.

Wow... that's crazy. Buy my house in Texas and you'll only pay about 13 cents during those times.

So I'm thinking this Silicon Power 32GB module should work and I've ordered one from Newegg. Hopefully, it will be in by the end of this week at which point I'll let you all know if it indeed works.

I didn't see any bloatware from GMKtec itself. It shipped with windows 11 version 23H2. I logged in with internet off and set it up without signing into a Windows account.
I installed this program
https://www.grc.com/incontrol.htm
which prevents windows 11 from updating to version 24H2.
I then installed both classic shell 4.3.1
http://www.classicshell.net/ which still works with Win 11
and then explorer patcher
https://github.com/valinet/explor...r/releases
I did run the powershell script
explorer patcher allows you to make the taskbar icons smaller and also drag the taskbar from the bottom of the screen to the side (if you want to)

And this is why Windows 11 sucks. You have to install programs to prevent it from updating (because of all the problems the updates might cause) and then install more programs (which are 'unofficial hacks') just to get back features that should be native OS features, many of which existed in Windows 10 before they got rid of them and added a bunch of crap that a lot of people didn't use or want or that should be optional add-ons.

Yeah, I read about issues with 24H2, so installed that patch that allowed me to update windows, without upgrading to 24H2. For those other apps I referenced, I believe those are patched to work with 24H2. I just wanted to be sure there weren't any driver conflicts before I upgrade to 24H2, so I'll keep an eye on this thread and reddit until those setttle down. All my other pcs are still on win 10 pro.
