I'm not a gamer myself, but this system is significantly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi without a doubt. There is a Linux distro called Batocera.Linux (https://batocera.org/) that is supposedly a turn-key solution for turning mini pc's like this into gaming consoles. Besides that, this comes with an apparently legit copy of Win 11 Pro as part of the $130 price tag.

Anyway, if your goal is retro gaming, a Raspberry Pi is smaller and more energy-efficient for these types of tasks, but honestly, once you add in a case, a good power supply (RPi's are picky with respect to power...), and storage, it is probably at the same price or even more than this $130 machine. But if you are interested in more modern gaming or more powerful emulation, this system would be better and give you more flexibility for future upgrades.
Fyi check out Reddit minipc forum, some users mention that these effectively have ZERO warranty.

Just saying buyers might want to read up.
N150 is a minor bump-up from N100

I didn't see any bloatware from GMKtec itself. It shipped with windows 11 version 23H2. I logged in with internet off and set it up without signing into a Windows account.
I installed this program
https://www.grc.com/incontrol.htm
which prevents windows 11 from updating to version 24H2.
I then installed both classic shell 4.3.1
http://www.classicshell.net/ which still works with Win 11
and then explorer patcher
https://github.com/valinet/explor...r/releases [github.com]
I did run the powershell script
explorer patcher allows you to make the taskbar icons smaller and also drag the taskbar from the bottom of the screen to the side (if you want to)
And this is why Windows 11 sucks. You have to install programs to prevent it from updating (because of all the problems the updates might cause) and then install more programs (which are 'unofficial hacks') just to get back features that should be native OS features, many of which existed in Windows 10 before they got rid of them and added a bunch of crap that a lot of people didn't use or want or that should be optional add-ons.

If you have a dedicated gaming PC in the house, one of these plus installing moonlight/sunshine can make a compact gaming setup anywhere in the house. Effectively like getting an NVIDIA shield with updated hardware.

Interesting... Besides the slightly lower price, I was also seeing an extra 10% ($12.59) off. So the total price before tax for me was $113.34. I'm a sucker... Hopefully, other folks are seeing this extra 10% off, too.

i have the g3 with an n100 cpu. I find I have to replace the thermal paste. might consider it because you probably not going to get much support from gmktec from my previous attemps to contact the. the n150 is only about 10 percent performance from N100 and probably won't notice the difference.

is this a one off or many people experience this

for what be worth people replace thermal paste on the shield too sometimes after heavy use

so it shouldn't be a real deal breaker

know what I'm saying?

well if you believe you can get warranty from gmktec than don't replace the thermal paste or maybe buy warranty from amazon.

Did they finally bring back the vertical taskbar in Windows 11 or is it still missing? And I won't mention all the bloatware, spying, and update issues Windows 11 has...
There are a few programs to give your Windows 11 a Windows 10 look, including the vertical taskbar. You can google them. I personally use ExplorerPatcher (https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher), and I am pretty happy with it.

?? can't you follow a conversation? if you don't replace the thermal paste and it is the reason the gmktec dies than gmktec won't warrenty it.

So I'm thinking this Silicon Power 32GB module should work and I've ordered one from Newegg. Hopefully, it will be in by the end of this week at which point I'll let you all know if it indeed works.

https://www.newegg.com/silicon-po...6820301503 [newegg.com]
Okay, this module finally arrived and it works perfectly fine! Linux dmesg reports it as:

[ 0.172971] Memory: 31991304K/33290496K available (22528K kernel code, 4521K rwdata, 14936K rodata, 4956K init, 4664K bss, 1285092K reserved, 0K cma-reserved)

It's a 32GB Silicon Power SU032GBSFU320F02SN.

I should have just paid a $1 more to buy it at Amazon Smilie But the important thing is that it works!

How do you figure out which barrel fits (diameter) and has the right watts, etc?
I bought this for my celluar router (uses more power than this mini-pc) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBNQN...tle_4&th=1

Ok, so if you do a fresh install of Win 11 2024H2 (like using an ISO sourced from Microsoft), you will have four unknown items in the Device Manager at the end because the drivers are not included in the ISO. The wired and wireless NICs are two of those devices so, unfortunately, you are left unconnected. But you can download the four necessary drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalog easily. Then just unzip the CABs onto a USB and bring them over to the G3 Plus for updating. Here are the four drivers with their Hardware IDs, and the links for downloading the CABs at the Microsoft Update Catalog website:

Intel I226-V Ethernet NIC
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_125C&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_04
https://catalog.s.download.window...00c877.cab

Realtek RTL8852BE Wireless NIC
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_B852&SUBSYS_B85210EC&REV_00
https://catalog.s.download.window...cef7b3.cab

Intel HID Event Filter
ACPI\VEN_INTC&DEV_1070
https://catalog.s.download.window...9441cd.cab

Intel Serial IO GPIO Host Controller - INTC1057
ACPI\VEN_INTC&DEV_1057
https://catalog.s.download.window...f20e7d.cab

If the links get munged, send me a DM and I'll send you the links that way.
Thanks for the good info. As an alternative for the NIC drivers can also be downloaded from Intel here:
