The mobile rtx 4060 in this laptop has a max tgp of 45w, less than a third of the maximum, and a max boost clock of 1470MHz, fully powered models can can have a boost clock as high as 2370MHz. When power limited to such an extent, the 4060 in this laptop will perform significantly worse than even a 100w mobile rtx 4050.
The screen (assuming it's the same one on the "katana" version of this laptop) is standard budget gaming laptop crap where the only redeeming quality is the refresh rate being 144hz. It has a brightness of only 250nits (bare minimum, very dim and not suitable for outdoor or bright environments) and 45% ntsc gamut coverage (~62.5% srgb coverage, colors will appear dull and washed out).
The battery is only 52.4whr, so expect poor battery life even with the rather efficient cpu.
Overall, this laptop is an incredibly bad value, and there are far better options available.
For the exact same price, without having to deal with a rebate, you could get the far superior Lenovo 15.6" LOQ 15IRX9: https://slickdeals.net/f/18111190-lenovo-loq-15-6-fhd-144hz-i5-13450hx-rtx-4060-16gb-ddr5-512gb-ssd-729-99-at-b-h-photo
The loq has a 115w tgp rtx 4060 (inordinately faster), a far better screen (300-nits, 100% sRGB, 144Hz, G-SYNC), and a larger battery (60whr). In terms of downsides the cpu is moderately worse (primarily due to being less efficient), it only comes with a 512gb ssd, and it's a fair bit bulkier and heavier. The loq comes with 16gb ddr5 in single channel mode, so you'd need to add a 16gb to the other slot for dual channel; msi doesn't list anywhere whether the 16gb in this laptop is 1x16gb or 2x8gb, so I don;t know if the same is necessary for the msi thin.

I've used another model with this display for a few years now, its been fine. Haven't wished it was brighter but as with any screen have wanted bigger at times.

I don't think that's their point. I think its the idea of the vendor being newegg (which I get, but there's not a lot of options these days) and that the $200 is a rebate vs a discount. Or at least that's my take on it.
It's a solid deal in my mind, but there's some caveats and strings attached to it that makes it less convenient.

Of course this is a Thin laptop, so its selling point is having a 4lb laptop instead of 5 to 7 lb laptop.
Good info for an alternative Lenovo model deal with better specs at nearly same price. It happens to weigh 5.25lb, but better power comes at the cost of weight and size, for ventilation of the cpu/gpu. However that particular Lenovo may have " motherboard issue for the Lenovo LOQ series (with Intel 13th gen HX).
I've been out of the laptop market for a while but love keeping up with the improvements made every generation. These recent gpus are very powerful compared to 2nd and 3rd gen RTX. e.g RTX 2060 is worse than a RTX 4050. see comparison

In the past MSI hinges tended to be delicate and fall apart within 5 years, so that may still be the case. My answer to that is avoid opening and closing the laptop too fast and often. Just keep it open all the time if used around the house.
Razer for the metal chasis but the 9955hx cpu isnt coming out for a long time and its so much more expensive
Thanks
- I know that the other 4060 laptops are better for the same price.
- I'm just trying to figure out if the 4060 at 45watt is better than a 4050 at its max watts.

on a side note, the RTX 5xxx series is on its way in a few months...which means more deals on previous gen on SD.
