Yeah, I'm not gonna say it's okay for Amazon to put all these garbage ads on the Fire stick. It really makes the experience sluggish. But what's the alternative? The built in apps on my LG, Roky, and Sony TV also have ads and is also very slow. A $160 Apple TV? Yikes, you're going to compare that thing to $25 dongle! I have one of these things on all 3 of my TV's for less than half that.

Apple TV 4k with ethernet has been on sale 100 times for $100-120, stop fear mongering we are on Slickdeals where you can literally just search the previous deals

And a $100 device definitely compares to a $25 device because for $75 more the user experience is night and day better.

Time is money - every Android streaming device outside of the Shield is a laggy piece of trash and this one includes ads as a final insult to injury

There are always people who say Ive always used a Firestick or Google TV why would i spend more on an Apple TV, it's because they have never used it.

Same people drive a Ford and say they would never buy a Mercedes or Lexus because they never could even test drive one, so of course they would have an ignorant opinion.

Havent met or seen one person that doesnt use Apple TV as their streaming device unless they are using side loaded apps with a Shield. Those are the top devices on the market and there are plenty of reasons of why they are tied for #1.

If you stream more than 1 hour per week it would be dumb to use a cheap device like this, you are only doing yourself a disservice by saving $75 over 2-3 years

I don't know what he's talking about. Fire stick 4k max is a ridiculously powerful device for $40.
I did the "jail break" years ago and have free paid content ie ufc PPV / HBO.

The 20% doesn't seem to stack with this promotion code.
agreed, it does not work. but for other devices, I can see it but not for max. may as well cancel my trade-in.

And what's more decadent... having one TV with an Apple TV or 10 TVs with Firesticks?
"Decadent" - LOL. Four firesticks in my house, one in my garage, one in my computer bag for travelling, three kids in college that each have one.

recently hit an issue of insufficient space on my older model 4k max stick. they really dont give you beans for space on that old device. Hate the dongle/usb solution for added storage.

I am curious to know, for what purpose you use this firestick? I have a samsung frame tv and an older version of samsung qled tv, both has all the apps I need, so what is the purpose of this firestick?

Wow! I guess I am an ignorant person, like you eloquently mentioned, as I am using Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) and it works as good as Apple TV, if not better. In fact, I traded in an old Apple TV and got the Cube and couldn't be any happier!

Now, I got the Max with this deal for about $23, after the rebate, and traded in an old FireTV stick and this will go to my office.

FWIW, I sideload so many apps (Kodi, SmartTube, etc.) and you MUST be a real happy camper watching YouTube with ads. lmao

Whatever you are smoking, please pass it around. lol

PS: Just for SmartTube alone, it's WORTH every penny to spend $23 for the Max, imho.

Tivo Stream 4k. You can get them for $25 new. I have setup at least a dozen of them. You can remove almost everything and just install a launcher and the things you want.

It's two people at the same time advertising for Onn. That's all I need to know.
Onn is owned by Walmart? there is nothing in it for them. It's well known every firestick thread people say it's bad get onn

When Amazon starts putting more storage/ram on their devices I will be a user again. On a 4k Max I only have 1 app installed: Kodi. And all storage is filled up and I can't install any other apps. And it's soooo slowww and sluggish. I have a $20 Onn box with a dozen apps and I never run out of storage space and it's rarely sluggish. I do have a custom launcher on the Onn which helps with the nonsense ads, but it's night and day difference. Also the 4k Max remote regularly loses connection with the stick and I have to unplug the stick which gets old fast.

There's rumors of a new Onn box coming out in 2025 that will be even better than the current top line Onn box and will also cost less.

Prices aren't great considering I got several 4k Max sticks 2 years ago for $17.50 each and hardware is still the same low end stuff.

Has anyone used one of these to turn an old tv into a big Echo Show? Basically thinking of hanging one in my office for a big calendar/weather/notification screen

You know you could just literally switch the words "fire sticks" and "rokus" around in your sentence and it still works just as well. But I would also add that I won't use a Roku because it can't run Channels DVR

Every time someone mentions a Firestick deal on here, we get Apple fanboys telling us to spend 10x the amount on an AppleTV. It's like the exact opposite of the purpose of this site. Sorry, but I have 10 Firesticks that work perfectly well and I'm not about to drop several grand on AppleTVs.
Sorry, it's disingenuous to artificially inflate the difference that much to make a point. The retail price for the Fire TV 4K Max is $60 and Apple TV is $130. It's just over 2X times, nowhere near 10X like you mention. And even sale prices for these are $30 and $100 respectively. Over 3X, but still not as bad as you make it out to be.

Both devices do the same thing, but are priced quite differently. I do think each is priced well for their respective user experience. One needs to keep in mind that part of the reason the Fire TV is priced so low is because or it's excessively intrusive ads; something that's not present on Apple TV. I stated earlier in the thread — I use the Apple TV for the main household TV. For secondary screens, I use the Fire TV and Google stick. Nobody should be buying the Apple TV for their occasional use screens.

Also, the longevity of these devices go a long way in reducing the impact of their price difference. Streaming is probably not going to go beyond 4K any time soon. These devices should hold their own for 6 years or so easily, and may even go longer.
