PSA: Be careful if you're scheduled to pickup on Friday. The activation timer may starts on Friday but the CS aren't availble on weekends, which means you only have whatever hours left on Friday to attempt cancelling the line.

Nothing to add about this deal, but I got this phone a couple months ago and I have to say it's the best phone I've ever used. My wife got a Iphone 16 pro max and the camera on the Pixel 9 pro XL puts it to shame - especially when zoomed in. And the battery is usually around 40% when I go to bed at night after heavy use all day.

So if you're on the fence about this phone, don't be - you'll love it!

I think there's a difference between ATT and Verizon activation/cancel process.
With ATT, the sim is activated and account is created when the phone is shipped/ready for pick up, so you will have your account info for cancellation before you get the phone and you have to call to cancel the account/service to avoid getting charged.
With Verizon, the sim is NOT activated and account is NOT created when the phone is shipped/ready for pick up, so you won't have your account info until you putting the sim in use, so technically there's nothing to cancel if you just throw away the Verizon sim and you won't get charged at all. By putting the sim in use only to get a number for cancellation is NOT necessary.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Forgive me if the answer is obvious - I've got T-Mobile and don't plan to switch carriers, but am curious, is it worth the hassle pursuing this?

All the porting, activating, cancelling, etc seems confusing.

Or is it more simple than it seems for someone starting from scratch for either carrier?

Good deal. I'm trading in my Pixel 6 for 260, so total is about 150 for the XL Pro without changing my Verizon plan. I'm spending the evening backing up my phone to an old pixel 4a for work purposes because I'll have to hand Best Buy my wiped P6 right then and there.

The phone is factory unlocked so no matter which carrier you choose from but I found it is easier to cancel service with Verizon... just my 2 cents!😁
The easiest way is get a new number with Verizon then cancel the service after pickup the phone. Then you can pop the T-Mobile sim in or transfer the esim which I did. Hope it helps to clear your confusion!
