Integra is Onkyo premium line. Like Marantz is Denon premium line.

Does anyone know if this deal is a new receiver or is it an open box?

Unless the x3800 gets down to near this price I say go for the Integra

Spend the extra on speakers
Though I don't own this unit, it has great room correction onboard and should be stellar for a small to mid size listening environment.
To be fair the 3800 has much more upside for the extra cost.

It also offers its own great room correction especially if you add A1EVO($20).
If that's not good enough, you have the full suite of another great RC Dirac at your disposal, which this doesn't.

If Dirac was a priority i suggest looking at the OB RZ30 for $749!
It would be a better investment imo.

I was considering the price of this unit

If you believe that value is linear then its about in a class by itself

That is your opinion on Audyssey and the added A1EVO

This vs RZ50?
Do you need the extra 2 channels and the extra power(assuming you won't be using the pre outs).
If not, this is less expensive option.

No 3D video support?
I would think, HDMI is HDMI, wouldn't think they'd change anything to prevent 3D from working.

How would this compare to a Marantz Cinema series or these Onkyo RZ30/50s ive been hearing so much about.
Much depends on your priorities.

Having experience with all other them, imo.

The RZ50 makes sense if you need the extra two channels.

The Cinema series makes sense if you prefer Marantz sound, understand you don't need Dirac and worth the extra cost.
I will mention Marantz & Dirac make a pretty good pairing.

If Dirac is a big priority the RZ30 is very enticing for $799 new/$749 OB imo

Actually A1EVO is a fast growing opinion, I'm surprised you haven't noticed over on AVS, big threads about it over there.
Here is one if you haven't.

I purchased this receiver a few months back from Adorama, at this price.
Pioneer,Onkyo, and Integra are the same company now.
My opinion on this unit is, even at this price, it's a marginal unit at best. But having Dirac room correction may justify the cost. Dirac increases the channel separation and clarity, but the overall sound is a bit sterile.
I use this unit as a preamp with external power amplifiers. This configuration improved the sound.
Also be aware that some reviewers of these units claim that an internal " nanny" power circuit cutoff can be actuated without the user's knowledge, drastically reducing power output and sound performance.

I can 2nd your endorsement of Dirac. Once i got it properly working on my Pioneer Elite VSx 305, it sounds much better than it did with the mcacc built in setup. Though this integra does come with multichannel preouts and if you ever wanted to add an amp to boost the output of your speakers, you wont find anything at this price that can do that. I paid $529 for the Pioneer Elite about a year and half ago from Adorma of course.

Currently using a lower end Yamaha RXV-691 7.2 network receiver that I've become happy with because it's capable of what I need. I think it's probably terribly underperforming for the speakers I have and wonder how much of an impact there will be sound wise if i upgrade to this unit.

Current setup-

B&W Nautilus 805 front L/R
Polk LSiM704 center channel
SVS SB-1000 right sub
Klipsch KSW10 rig sub
Yahama in ceiling surround speakers (4)

Polk front presence speakers (don't recall models and not getting on stepladder to check.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this integra has Dirac built in while the 3800 costs an additional 300-500 to upgrade

Correct this includes Dirac's loudspeaker room correction full bandwidth.
It does not offer Dirac's subwoofer room correction bass control.

The 3800 offers both and highly rumored to get Dirac's newest room correction ART in the near future.

The Dirac Live software can be used to make the sound warmer, though this requires manual adjustments after room correction has been done.

This occurs when pushing the AVR to it's limits causing it to clip. Under normal use this will likely never occur. However, the fix is simple. Just unplug and plug the unit back in. It would be nice if they would update the firmware so the AVR displays a message when its in power limiting mode (limp mode).

I purchased this AV center and the Dirac room correction did wonders for my cheap speaker setup. before this I only had a 5.1 vintage av system from the 2000s. This receiver sounded much better in movies. I run 7.2 channel system and even without the elevation atmos speakers I am hearing sounds coming from above my head. Somehow the frequencies and room correction allowed all the speakers to artificially create atmos effects from the current limited speaker field. Dirac must have helped that happen.

But I plan to make the upgrade to Higher end Atmos speakers later when those same sales return...I regretfully held back for $300 a pair for some good atmos speakers last few monthss thinking this sale would last a long time..now all those went back up to $350 to $599+.
