Assuming this would be an upgrade? (Other than size wise, obviously..)

If you're in the market for a big screen TV, I'd buy now since I'm almost sure that prices for 2024/2025 TVs are bound to go up due to the tariffs that are in effect now. Remember that TCL and Hisense are both manufactured in China/Mexico so once the current inventory is depleted then expect a price increase .

As for real life user experience, although I own both the Hisense U8K and the TCL QM851, it's still hard to compare them since they are in different rooms and of course, one is 85inches the other is 100. What I know is I'm happy with both of them and would not go back to my BenQ or to my smaller 65 inch LG OLED ( delegated to a guest bedroom). I'd give the TCL a slight edge on picture quality and a big advantage on the form factor( thinner overall) but I will not pay an extra $1K for it. Now if only the TCL 115QM891G would go down to $5K , then maybe I'd get a bigger house to accommodate that monster lol 😆
These Chinese panels have some crazy specs that make them look amazing on paper and thy do have some moments of brilliance...but they also have pitfalls
I own the Hisense U8H in a 65 and the Hisense U8N in a 55
Black levels and brightness are off the chain..they also do well with controlling blooming
But accuracy and picture processing are their downfall. One could make a point that giving up some black level and brightness along with some better picture processing is more enjoyable
I own a couple of Samsungs...QN90A and QN90C and they are just all around better televisions than the Hisense units are
Then there is some occasional and unexplained bugginess with the Hisense units as well that require a restart...E-ARC stops working, wifi drops
I use external devices on my TV's..be it Apple Tv or a Roku
BUT...these Hisense Tv's will lose Wifi ( U8H) and flash the banner on the screen and then it will just reconnect and flash that banner on the screen
I have had E-Arc issues and HDMI CEC control issues, both of which can be inconsistent with the Hisense TV's
Its works and then it doesnt..no explanation ..So I completely agree with the rtings comment about occasional bugginess
Never an issue with the samsung Tv's
