Personally, I have been using generics. I have the c545 so filters are a little more expensive. The OEM ones claim to last for a year but I think thats BS. I usually buy the ones that comes with the 4 carbon sheets but I decided to buy a 4 pack of Hepas for like $18. I use one Hepa for every 2 carbon sheets.
Considering that my Winix has a layer of dust on it, I don't know if it matters in the scheme of things.

A comment like this shows your lack of understanding.... pharmaceutical industries are highly regulated...a generic alternative has been tested to meet the performance of the branded...a cheap knock off on Amazon has 0 testing for any actual performance...anyone could be a third party selling anything you want with any claims you want...use some common sense.

Felt less painful replacing these out sooner (every 6 months), so I end up replacing them more often since they were significantly cheaper. Both the official and this generic removed my allergies. So whether or not they are as good as the official ones, no idea since it's not worth buying an air quality monitor to test it, but it was definitely good enough for my allergies.
Note, we own two black cats and found out later we started to get more allergic over time to pet dander. So not horrible allergies, but enough to trigger eye itchiness and occasional sneezing. If you have something more serious health-wise, totally understand not to risk the generics.
