This would be perfect for me to switch to from my current Mint plan, but I have many months left. Any way that I can buy this deal now and activate it later this year?

On Google fi for like a decade, but they have the worst customer service of literally any company I've ever dealt with. I recommend staying away.

can you elaborate? I just called customer service and both times they answered within seconds, and were very very friendly.

I see that a few people have had customer service issues... I bought a new Samsung S24 Ultra via them for a discount that was supposed to come with monthly billing credits over time. I have only received one $20 credit and I have yet to receive a response from their support. It's web-based and I have no idea how to get a human on the phone or anything.

I do travel internationally a couple times a year and the largest plan (I think it's $65/mo) covers unlimited international data. To not have to worry about getting a SIM in whatever country I'm in is a big time savings. I do like that part of it.

What is the rule for the 'new customer'?
New Google Fi owner or new Google Fi user?

I owned Google Fi once, and my spouse used Google Fi with her Google account.
Could my spouse be a new customer? Or Google check with the Google account?

What's worse about iPhones? The OS is so much better (unless you mean the ability to "root" the device and customize everything to your heart's desire) and actually receives frequent updates unlike Android.
It's totally subjective for each person, and the update thing is false, unless you're talking about low-end Android phones. If you're comparing Apple to Pixel/high-end Samsungs, it's like arguing whether Coke or Pepsi is "better".

That said, Fi has traditionally had much better Android support/integration, since it was built by/for Google phones. You don't get a free watch line and you don't get the network switching on iPhones, but not sure the network switching really matters anymore like it did with Sprint/TMo. Seems like the only reason you would use Fi on an iPhone is either if you're on a shared plan with an Android person, or you just wanted a TMo MVNO with prioritized data (AFAIK they are the only MVNO with postpaid priority)

I wouldn't fret; Google is finally getting in the mud on pricing after a decade, this will come around again. Disappointed the brain-strainingly-named "unlimited plus"--which per their site is now called "unlimited standard" now doesn't include international coverage. While the most logical cut to teh plan/service option to lower price it eats away at where Fi was actually breaking new ground a decade ago--and also many of their competitors have started offering better international service in the meantime. A decent deal, but really just more of the same offers from "another" carrier.

Haven't seen many people mention this, but the free watch line with shared number is a big plus if you have a Pixel watch or a Watch5/6/7. Haven't found an MVNO yet that will give you an unlimited plan w/ hotspot and a shared Google/Samsung watch line for $25/mo.

(Visible has watch plans, but only for Apple watches. US Mobile also has watch plans but only free with Unlimited Premium)

I have not had any problem getting through to them, but most of their customer service agents are in India, are under trained, and are extremely useless with extremely thick accents that require me to ask them to repeat what they're saying, every other sentence.

That may sound like bigotry, but I'm purely talking about my ability to communicate with them and their ability to solve problems. I had an issue with a pixel phone screen that was covered under an extended warranty, and none of them knew what I was talking about. Getting it actually fixed, took hours and hours of free time to get them to actually cover it despite being a fully documented problem that Google covered with their extended warranty and sending them links to said warranty.

I have since moved to an iPhone after being on android for about 15 years, even though iPhones are worse, the customer service surrounding them is 1 million times better. I'm currently looking for other phone service providers as well
  1. Most call centers are in India, and I've never had trouble understanding them, even as a non-native speaker.
  2. Customer service agents often can't solve anything beyond basic requests. If you're facing a complex issue, ask for a manager.
  3. Comparing iPhones to MVNOs is unfair. Apple isn't a MVNO, and their support is far superior.
I've had experience with several providers, including Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, their agents were also generally based in India, and they struggled to resolve tech issues that weren't simple fixes, taking hours to sort out complex problems.

Google Fi has one of the highest (if not THE highest) taxes+fees components in monthly bills compared to other providers (including the big three). It can be as high as $8/line. A 4-line deal here would be $50 for the plan and $30+ for fees. Suddenly it goes from $12.5/line/month to over $20/line/month.
I'm sorry, you're suggesting that Fi charges higher government taxes, government 911 fees, and recovery fees in a given location compared to other companies?

That's what I found in various forums. Easy to find those discussions on reddit. I tried contacting Google Fi agents, and they won't tell me, which kind of confirms it I guess.
Wait, so you're literally made up your "factual" post from stuff you read on Reddit. Nice.
Nearly every time there's a phone service deal, somebody posts "what are the taxes on this" as if anyone who doesn't live in their neighborhood could answer. If someone has $8 per month per line taxes then that's what the government collects in that locale no matter who the provider. Your mileage will vary. This is why the reps can't answer. Call VZW and they won't answer either. They'll also tell you it varies by location.

Man, relax!

If the provider doesn't publish the fees online, and their customer service representative wont tell you what the taxes/fees are, given your address, where is one supposed to get that information? You don't ever get information from internet search and forums where people discuss their experiences?

I am not out to thrash Google Fi or you.. I was here because I wanted to get this deal, and I wanted to make sure what my monthly payment would be if I get this deal.

In case you didn't know some providers publish their prices with taxes/fees. Please check out US Mobile or Visible plans. At least some plans from Cricket and T-mobile lists "including taxes/fees". I almost got this deal before I realized the taxes/fees may make this far worse experience for me - that is what I mentioned in my response. Even with that taxes and fees it may still be worth it for others (unlimited data in US/Canda/Mexico, free watch data for some watches, etc.) Not for me, not with that yet-to-be-disclosed taxes and fees.

Anyone here live in a rural area with Google Fi, does it really pull off all different kinds of cell towers roaming? I have Verizon... which is okay. But expensive and still drops in the country.

I've been with them about 5 years. I've only had to call them maybe twice. No problems! Normal prompts that I hate with everyone but they take care of things and answer straight forward.

I use US Mobile and like it a lot BUT there is no way its 22$ for both of you. The basic plan is 10$ per line and that includes only 2G. For 5G you need to top off on your data around another 10$ every other month approximately.
5GB is $15
Add a line $8
= $23

It's not my fault you can't read their webpage, where it clearly shows $23 for 2 lines and 5GB, as I said:
