I have this. I recommend also buying a spare battery, as the rechargeable battery's charge lasts about a month and the battery takes several hours to recharge. It's easier and ensures continuous availability to have a spare battery charged and ready to go.

Yeah, agreed. I moved away from myQ for garage door opener with an open source solution and much happier. I'd advise against getting locked into this ecosystem which wants to charge you monthly, unless you need the specific features. I would think most people would be better off with a surveillance camera system (ring, reolink, eufy, etc.) and a dumb keypad if you want to see who is opening your door.

Seems like an awful product. The non video key pads last for years

No way in hell I'm recharging this all the time.

Thanks. I bought this last week at $56. I tried to talk to Amazon support to get a price adjustment but they are only able to credit $12 worth, so I am forced to go through the process to buy the new one and return it as the old one.

looks like Walmart has matched the price.
Usually it's the other way around, that Walmart will drop the price of something and Amazon follows suit

I have one of these without a subscription. Video wise it doesn't record but can view live video any time. I put it on eco mode and battery last like 3-4 months. If your wifi goes out these keypads STILL work to open/close garage door!! Also the feature to close door on the way out by pushing the close button on this keypad is very convenient. This keypad is CLUTCH even without subscription especially with eco mode on.
My dumb keypad with flip up cover can already close the door on way out by just hitting the Enter button.

You do know that is unethical at best, illegal at worst.

A lot of trouble to net $9 afterwards considering the credit. I like how they say they're "forced" to go thru the buy and fake return process.

Back on topic and speaking of unethical, I refuse to look at any myQ products after they pulled third party API support. They shat all over their large home assistant user base.

Agreed. I think I still have the original 9 volt battery in the Chamberlin keypad that I put in in 2017.

Interesting to read through people's experiences with MyQ. I set mine up years ago and have used it remotely from other countries to open and close my garage door. I did see that if I wanted to set it up in my Honda they wanted a subscription, so I passed and otherwise I've never needed a subscription for my device to work. I don't use homekit or any of those third party hubs (never felt the need and maybe it is because I have no idea what I am missing out on). I was considering this for the camera but if I can't even record local and access via the internet then I'd rather stick with my dumb keypad and a Tapo or Eufy cam to monitor a video feed.

Lag your internet
if this is lagging your internet you're on bad internet or have a crappy router

That is actually what Amazon recommends since they won't price match and you are within the return window. It is neither unethical nor illegal

So without subscription, what can you do with the video? Nothing?
you can watch the live video feed without subscription.

Just checked this out and then looked to see how much the subscription was to pair to my car. $129 for 3 year subscription to use from my car for $90 for this to setup and have all the 3rd party accesses... Easy choice if I am going that route.

No, Amazon does NOT recommend "buy the new one and return it as the old one". You can return the original and purchase the new. But to return an item on a different invoice than it was purchased (item swapping)? No, they don't. And yes, that is illegal - it's considered return fraud.

I like this and paid for it when it came out, helps when the neighbors needs to use a ladder or tool, or someone you trust needs to get something out the garage , set a temporary code and it's all set. Battery last maybe 2 or 3 months depending on usage .

It is literally the same product, same sku, same everything. I have had Amazon reps tell me in chat to buy a new item at sale price and then do a return on the other higher priced purchase. There is nothing wrong with this, it isn't like they are returning the previous generation model or something, it is LITERALLY the same product.

It literally is not. They may encourage you to return the previous item, but that's not what is being stated by the OP or you. Go ask a CS that Q verbatim then come back and share the screenshot of them telling you it's ok. And enjoy your new flag on the backend. Do folks do it? All the time. But don't delude yourself saying it's encouraged or legal, neither is true.

the only difference between the products would be a serial number, which Amazon is NOT tracking. If there is some other difference, please elaborate

If you think Amazon isn't tracking serial numbers, you are severely outdated in your understanding. I'm not going to further debate what is common knowledge, only to challenge your individual desire to justify your own borderline shady activity.

Again, FAFO comes into play here, so best of luck to you.

You think the underpaid-overworked picker is opening the box to track a serial number on a $40 electronic keypad? This isn't an ipad or $2000 GPU (but how many of those get fraudulently returned because amazon doesn't care). You do what you're know-it-all self wants and I'll go with what the CS has literally told me to do; since it is the exact same product, they don't care. I'd agree with you if there was some difference but there isn't.
