Display is inherently strange. it's portrait orientation instead of landscape. Software makes it landscape. Overlays like the AMD one show up oriented portrait. You've been warned.

It's been confirmed that the software improvements to windows they're making for the ROG Xbox Ally are coming to other handhelds as well:

> Similar full-screen Xbox experiences will be rolling out to other Windows handhelds, starting next year.

To be honest is this considered even a slick deal anymore? Keeps popping up for around this price recently. Unfortunately the best slick deal for this at least in my opinion was the target one but it seems they won't restock it anymore so I probably won't come back in that retailer anyway. That price might make a comeback or better when the second one is announced which is supposed to be this year right? I read somewhere although not confirmed that other existing handhelds including this one will get the slim down version of Windows that utilizes less resources like the Xbox Asus rog handheld that's scheduled for later this year. if that is indeed confirmed to be in the plan and the baked in software that let you tweak the power and other settings still work then it'll be a game changer.

It might but it was only a couple of weeks ago when Target had it for $350. The ROG Ally X and MSI Claw 8 have gone up $100 in price, but those are the highly sought after ones. The Legion Go has significantly less demand.
It was $350 for two hours as the last of the stock sold out. It was supposed to be $420: https://slickdeals.net/f/18329560-lenovo-legion-go-8-8-144hz-wqxga-gaming-handheld-amd-ryzen-z1-extreme-16gb-with-512gb-ssd-shadow-black-419-99?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3ATrue%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse

There are trade offs.

Ally has VRR screen, much better software and updates, astonishingly better speakers. Overall, it's a much better user experience. The screen is a bit small for me at 7".

LeGo has a bigger, more vibrant screen but it's a native portrait screen so it does not do VRR. Its speakers are the definitively worst speakers I have experienced on ANY handheld in the last 15 years. The detachable controllers are cool but you'll need the 3d printed custom grips for anything remotely comfortable. The software is lackluster.

I've had the Steamdeck LCD, ROG Ally Z1E, Legion Go, ROG Ally X, and currently MSI Claw 8 AI+.

Why do you have all of these, unless you are a reviewer? A Steam Deck and a Windows machine should be enough.

I don't currently own all these systems. Geezus.... it's a hobby. Not FOMO.

Even if I did own all of them, what's it to anyone else. No one here knows my financial state of being. I could be sitting on millionaires of dollars.

Honestly, it's a great question. Obviously, the Target deal was slick for those who got in on that. Maybe this will be the new floor/clearance pricing until these get phased-out. It seems like you're getting a lot for your money though. Good price/performance + added features. ... It's an interesting time to be buying a handheld pc right now with no definitive information on price and performance for the Z2 Extreme handhelds yet; only speculation. I wish we'd hear from one of these handheld manufacturers what price will look like for the devices with the new Z2E APU. If the Z2 Extreme handhelds will be starting at $900 and the Legion Go 2 ends up being $1k+, this may seem slick in hindsight, especially if the performance of the Z2 Extreme is only marginal to the Z1 Extreme. It's a matter of perspective and speculation at this point. ... IMO, I'd rather take the risk of buying this for $500 and enjoying it for what it is for a few years, then consider upgrading later when architecture is significantly better.

Bought it, it's cool. Software is quirky, but not at all unusable.

I have no issue with this on mine. I also use mine for PS5 and Xbox Remote Play, and it works great.

I don't know anyone that says the MSI Claw is a better device than the Lenovo Legion Go. I'd be open to be proven wrong.

The ROG Ally, yep most people like that more than the Legion Go. But I'm not one of them.

I owned the original Ally X Z1 Extreme, and it was nice. Comfortable and ran things well. But once you get your hands on this Legion Go with it's 1440p 9" screen, theres no going back to the 7" 1080p. I realize not every game will do 1440p, but the 9" is such a game changer.

Also, it's IO is better IMO, and it has detachable controllers. It can be argued that it's less comfortable, but I'm OK with the form factor.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I was saying the $350 price isn't a good reference point because it was brief and not widespread.

I bought one from this deal. The minute I took it out of the box, I was disappointed. It felt bulky in my hands. I took the controllers off and it felt thick and blocky. I couldn't see myself using it. Then I turned it on and my opinion flipped. It's so fast, windows works great with the touch screen, the screen looks great. I may use this as my work computer. I started doing all the stuff that I'd go to my desktop to do on this as a windows tablet. It's almost as powerful as my Ryzen 9 laptop. The speakers do suck, but I have tons of headphones and Bluetooth speakers.
