This sounds fishy.
You should not be able to unlock until 60 days after purchase.
Every time I have done this promo before it went like this:
Trade in Phone - receive credit a few days later
Transfer credit back to credit card
wait 60 days to unlock
cancel line after that
No issues at all. However, I have Spectrum internet so my account is still open.
Not sure what you are doing wrong or if the rules have changed.
There is nothing fishy about it. I did get them to unlock early through chat. I Did cancel the line because I was able to unlock the device and they charged me the 1,000 on the account. I also have spectrum internet. Here is a screenshot of the charge.

Be careful with this deal. I preordered the z fold and paid the full price and did the trade in promo. I sent the phone and received the 1,000 credit on my account and got it back to my debit card. I then got them to unlock my device early. I used my att sim in the phone and decided to cancel the line. I look at my bill and there is a charge 1,000 trade in reversal. They said you cancelled so you loose the trade in promo. Anyone else experience this with spectrum and if so any tips?
honestly, in your case i would've told them that you were never told the line had to be active for X amount of days for pay-in-full, or else the trade-in promo would be reversed. Have them show you the fine print where it clearly states the policy in writing. I would try going to a retail store.

I already cancelled one of my lines that was opened with a Flip purchase and have not gotten any chargebacks for $700.

Also I called today and asked to transfer my credit to my CC on file. CS created a ticket for the request and said that it should be back on my CC before 09/01 which is my billing cycle.

yeah that $1000 chargeback is highly unusual and without precedent that I'm aware of. Nowhere in their terms does it state you have to stay for X months to keep the trade in credit. Clearly the guy paid in full, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten it lump sum.

Just curious as to why you cancelled the line? Don't you have to wait 2 months for the unlock?
