Monthly services plans technically start at $4.5/mo for a small amount of text or data, while the cheapest usable plan is $10/mo for 2GB of data and unlimited talk/text. For Unlimited data, they start at $25/mo.
For the $4.50/mo plan: Add a new line -> Low Data -> Monthly -> Select 50 MB of data OR 50 texts

This is the price I'd expect for unlocked versions of these phones, without having to go through some carrier to unlock it after x days/months.
Then when you couple it with there being no guarantee it actually unlocks after the requisite period it makes this deal that much worse.

As a US Mobile customer who also relies on credit card insurance, that's great to hear. One thing to keep in mind is that purchasing a smartphone through a prepaid carrier may exclude the phone from being covered by the credit card insurance. That's at least the case with mine (Venture X)
I use coverage provided by my Chase Ink Preferred credit card. For this card, insurance is provided when I pay my monthly bill with the card. The original phone purchase doesn't matter. Of course Capital One may be different.
What is not covered?
Cellular wireless telephone which has been rented, borrowed or cellular wireless telephones that are received as part of a pre-paid wireless service plan or "pay as you go" type service plans.

So I can just add xfinity in the other eSIM slot, and pause the $10 / month plan when the snow falls in the mountains, then resume next summer. Super impressed with usmobile's plan offerings, great option if you need backup coverage, but don't want to port carriers.
FWIW, trying to refer a friend now and their www domain seems to be down. Is it just me? Edit: site seems to be back up.
Bootloader unlocked or not?
If it's like previous deals it seems like it will be unlocked when the network unlock happens after 90 days. [reddit.com]
So if I go for the $819 Pixel 10 Pro XL 256GB, i can buy the cheapest US Mobile plan, like the 500MB/month "low data plan" for $5, use that to activate the phone for 30 days, and then just leave it in a drawer for another 60 days until it auto unlocks?
They clarified that it is a 30 day unlock for the purchases without the annual plan. So just put a USM eSIM on it within 15 days of receiving it and leave it in a drawer for 30 days. I'm currently doing that with the $250 Pixel 9. $4.48/mo for 50 MB or 50 texts due to taxes and fees, seems like custom plans are the only ones where those are not included.
