If I'm also in the market for a blower would this be a better deal for $250? https://www.lowes.com/pd/EGO-56-v...5014702047
This one is the ST1511T, and the combo is the ST1510T. Some sources say there are differences, others don't. Confusing!

I'm buying this! My mom has one and the power load feature is one of the most amazing innovations in trimmers ever. You just insert the string so it feeds through both sides, even it out, then press and hold the power load button until it pulls most of it in. Amazing and honestly life changing after dealing with countless reload frustrations.

Consider Ryobi as well unless you want to get into the EGO universe for their tool selection.
Ryobi 40v is a great option for smaller yards. Compare their tools and add-ons offerings.
A couple of decades ago, I started with Ryobi gas trimmer and their 18v yard tools. I upgraded to the Ryobi 40v system recently since I had the EXPAND-IT edger for the gas system (which eventually became hard to start). The 40v brushed string trimmer and edger do a great job. The power compared to the 18v is impressive. I plan on buying the 40v blower when on sale.
I bought the 40v EXPAND-IT trimmer at DIRECT TOOLS when they had a 50% coupon. The tools there are reconditioned or factory blemished, but the "factory blemished" are new in box tools. The occasional discount (40% or 50%) makes them cheaper than Home Depot prices and sales.
I've got several of the Ryobi 40V tools and wish they had just a bit more power, particularly the string trimmer and chainsaw. Been debating on upgrading to the EGO or maybe 80V Greenworks platform. I'd probably try this but it's not attachment capable.

Someone asked on the Ego forum and support said the difference is simply because one is labeled as a combo (with battery) and the other isn't. It appears they have the same user manual and same option when registering for the warranty.

I have a 40v Ryobi and I also have this EGO 56v. I would give the Ryobi like a 6-7/10 but the EGO would be like an 8-8.5/10. I haven't used the Ryobi in 2 years.

Yep, it's fantastic. Akin to pellet smokers having an firebox cleanout now where you don't have to take the grates out, like Camp Chef pioneered.

Does anyone with this or familiar with Ego trimmers know if there is a snap on guide for edging? Or does this have the capability of detaching string trimmer and add edger module?

This cannot detach the string trimmer and swap to the edger module. For that, you want the "multi-head" model. Though in the forums, some folks say having the dedicated string trimmer is better since the motor is right there by the strings vs. needing a crank shaft from elsewhere (so more power on the dedicated unit).

I love mine when it works; I had to warranty the battery after 2 yrs, and the shaft handle broke last week. This is after 3 yrs of light residential use. Customer service was pretty good on the battery.

Tempted but tired of picking up all the pieces of broken string. Anyone have a suggestion for a compatable easy/dependable conversion kit? I've seen blade types, wire types, and others- not sure which way to go. Many thanks.
I'd try some line from different manufacturers first. I use Huskvarna; it is a huge difference.
