Wouldn't the one with sound directly on the sensor be better? Planning on getting my first one, and debating if I should get this one with 0db or the one with alarm. Any advice on benefits of one over the other?

So these only detect leaks that cause water pooling near the leak?

I would rather have something that detects leaks in a wall, underground, etc.

Can't speak to this brand (we use govee), I'm just here to stress how important it is to not only have water alarms but also to have them _everywhere_ there is a water source in your home - refrigerator, under every sink, every toilet fish tank, water heater, washer/dryer, etc. Low upfront cost and can save you thousands. Great to have smart ones since they can tell you about leaks when you're out so you can get home ASAP or call a neighbor to help if you're out of town
100% right. I have a govee under each water source and a automated valve to turn off the house water. It obviously won't stop some flooding, but it will stop the worst case.

Any opinions on these YoLink vs. Govee that have been around same price?

Yolink also sells automatic water shutoffs that can be set off with these sensors. Thee are two types. Both need a 1/4 turn ball shut off valve. No plumber needed to install the yolink auto water shutoff valve if you have the 1/4 turn ball shut off valve. Takes 30 minutes max to install.

Can be controlled via WiFi. The thing I really like about it is you can set it up so there is device to device communication between each sensor and the shut off. If you do this, even if you lose electricity and WiFi it will STILL shut off the water valve when a leak is detected. A few years back there was the freeze in Texas where electricity was lost across large areas. People lost electricity, WiFi, and heat and their pipes froze and cracked. If you had the yolink shutoff it still would have shutoff the whole house shut off valve.

Yolink also sells an audible alarm for around $20-$25 that can be set up to go off when any of the sensors detects water.

Watched a YouTube video where the guy already had water damage in his basement from a failed line. So he installed these sensors. Unfortunately, it happened again …this time overnight, and when he woke up he saw all the notifications on his phone. Still didn't stop the water damage from occurring.

He smartly installed the yolink water shutoff valve. Good idea to install the audible alarm as well. It will definitely wake you up.

How did you get your Govee sensors to work with the valve?

I actually have a Flo device integrated with home assistant - anytime we're out of town for more than a couple of days, I have it turn off water to the house.

Good idea. Two use cases NOT to:

- you have a lawn sprinkler system

- you have an oil burner and baseboard heating. It's possible to have a small leak and the boiler will lose water and could explode. Chances are the Moen would have detected that water leak already though.

I just replaced the old faucets in my home myself. This is a good security to make sure I did a good job. Been a few weeks, so far so good.

Unfortunately, this brand also will not detect the absence of water, only the presence. I know my needs are specific so thought I'd drop this here

my sprinkler, thankfully is piped in before the moen. and has a master valve wired for that. The master valve is supported by most sprinkler controllers, and essentially opens the valve only during the time that a sprinkler zone is also open. This makes sure you don't have an undetected leak between plumbing and your sprinkler valve box. I actually suffered a leak like that, and ended up wiring this up after I discovered and fixed that leak.

I've been using this system for the past few months. We had a sump pump failure in the basement and while the YoLink sensor alarm went off I couldn't hear it on the first floor of our house; it's only about 80 db. Fortunately, from where my wife was in the house she could hear it. The solution was to get their siren which will sound (it's VERY loud; the loudness has three settings - L, M, H) when a sensor is triggered. Works great. One needs to change a setting in the hub (I think it's under Action) to set off the siren when a sensor is triggered. The siren is on the second floor of the house to wake us up, if need be.

Yes, did the same after seeing a YouTube video where the guy was asleep upstairs overnight when he had a leak in his basement. Woke up to a lot of phone notifications but the leak still happened. With the separate siren alarm you'll be able to hear it throughout the house.

What is the best deal strategy if I want a hub, and ~4x Type4 (siren) Water Detectors, and 2-3x Temp sensors - for the deep freeze, tap fridge, and maybe outdoors? Don't need to do it all at once. TIA!
