Wouldn't the one with sound directly on the sensor be better? Planning on getting my first one, and debating if I should get this one with 0db or the one with alarm. Any advice on benefits of one over the other?

So these only detect leaks that cause water pooling near the leak?

I would rather have something that detects leaks in a wall, underground, etc.

Can't speak to this brand (we use govee), I'm just here to stress how important it is to not only have water alarms but also to have them _everywhere_ there is a water source in your home - refrigerator, under every sink, every toilet fish tank, water heater, washer/dryer, etc. Low upfront cost and can save you thousands. Great to have smart ones since they can tell you about leaks when you're out so you can get home ASAP or call a neighbor to help if you're out of town
100% right. I have a govee under each water source and a automated valve to turn off the house water. It obviously won't stop some flooding, but it will stop the worst case.

Any opinions on these YoLink vs. Govee that have been around same price?

Yolink also sells automatic water shutoffs that can be set off with these sensors. Thee are two types. Both need a 1/4 turn ball shut off valve. No plumber needed to install the yolink auto water shutoff valve if you have the 1/4 turn ball shut off valve. Takes 30 minutes max to install.

Can be controlled via WiFi. The thing I really like about it is you can set it up so there is device to device communication between each sensor and the shut off. If you do this, even if you lose electricity and WiFi it will STILL shut off the water valve when a leak is detected. A few years back there was the freeze in Texas where electricity was lost across large areas. People lost electricity, WiFi, and heat and their pipes froze and cracked. If you had the yolink shutoff it still would have shutoff the whole house shut off valve.

Yolink also sells an audible alarm for around $20-$25 that can be set up to go off when any of the sensors detects water.

Watched a YouTube video where the guy already had water damage in his basement from a failed line. So he installed these sensors. Unfortunately, it happened again …this time overnight, and when he woke up he saw all the notifications on his phone. Still didn't stop the water damage from occurring.

He smartly installed the yolink water shutoff valve. Good idea to install the audible alarm as well. It will definitely wake you up.
