We have bought 2 of these. The 1st lasted 18 mo (bought the ext warranty from WM) so that got us to our 2nd. We have had the 2nd freezer for about 6 mo. Do understand if you get a damaged unit from shipping you have exactly 3 days to return it to a STORE. No online returns for damaged units. The 1st one was received damaged and glad I noticed the 3 day return policy. Even though I was within the 3 days, the store still argued with we. Had to get management involved (resolved). WM is getting difficult to deal with especially with their .com returns. CS stays its .com's fault. BS. WM is WM.
Bottom line I like the freezer even thou it does not have door bins. Its in my unheated garage (NE Ohioland) with no issues. And yes I do have to defrost 1x/yr. $198 is what I paid 2.5 yrs ago. My overall rating of this freezer is an 7.5. Good value. I recommend buying the ext warranty - easy to file a claim and get a replacement unit. Just needed to submit receipt, copy, warranty & photos. Got replacement unit in 10 days.

Great price, I purchased this exact freezer last October. I keep it in our garage. Just for SA, the image on the Walmart website says it supports being outdoor in the garage with a wide temp range; the instruction manual that came w the freezer states a much different temp range (e.g. higher temperatures range and that does not winter in the Midwest).

Knock on wood, no issues being outside. Walmart gave me a ~40% discount (off the sale price) when I noted this to CSR and wanted to return it....at that price, I had to keep it.

I bought one a year ago. It looked like it had been run over. Box was intact.

I bought two last year. They came no damage and have been holding at zero just fine. When the power is out, they stay below freezing for quite a while.

Since we use them as every day freezers, they do frost over in places fairly quick.

I really need another freezer to keep my dog's (raw/frozen) food in, but I don't think my garage electric will allow this, along with the extra fridge I already have.

Appears to have been produced in the same factory as the Best Buy Insignia 7 cu ft garage -ready which I have owned for two years. It's been reliable but not fun. I saw a similar but slightly larger model at Costco last week labeled as Frigidaire. $225 is a slick price on these if you want a feature-starved freezer. Self-defrost is something I avoid. It's not a feature for me. I want my food preserved as best as possible. An accessory alarm with a wired not wireless probe is essential. Edit: Costco and BB Insignia look the same but this has wire shelves which are superior. If the shelves have active cooling all the better.

No problem. Power consumption is under 100 watts. Mine will run on a battery inverter for 2 days. Put a load-sharing control on outlets if necessary. There is a momentary surge when a compressor starts but both typically don't start at the same time.

This appears to be made by Curtis Intl. I bought a similar unit from Costco and it went out at the 100 day mark with hundreds of dollars of proteins. Costco has a strict 90 day policy so I had to deal with the manufacturer. They did send me a check but having to "field destroy" the unit felt horrible. I would stay away from this unit.

i have the insignia 7cuft freezer for couple years and no problems so far. for defrosting i take all the food out and remove the ice sheets using a trim removal tool. every 6 mos or so takes about 20min and it works great without damaging the interior. no need to leave it overnight or use hair dryers.
