Have had this puppy for little over a year got it from TJ max at $599. I can confidently say that this thing paid for itself and sure is worth every penny at this price. You can pull amazing shots out of it even though the grinder on it is the main set back and I really am due for a grinder upgrade. I do not recommend light roasts with this grinder as it really struggles with light roasts. Overall I recommend this machine for someone who is willing to put in the work!

I bought this model few years ago and so far its holding up really well. I don't have any issues with light roasts, really only thing I drink is medium and light roasts. Maybe BeigePartner5820 definition of light roast is different than my but trick is to use less beans with lighter roasts. I use different filter basket, ST tool and bottomless portafilter (along with a funnel). Main driver is the quality and the (date) roast of the beans. I'm in STL so I use local bean roasters, for example Kaldi 700 I can bump it up to 23gram but if I use Blueprint Penrose I go down to 21.. sometimes less if for example Ethiopian beans, light roast.. they are very dense. I was going to spend few times this on a Italian machines but "settled" for this, its great machine with those small improvements I made.

The Pro model is the only one that comes with Baratza burrs in the grinder. There is a good chance that $599 machine wasn't a Pro, because that would have been an amazing deal and they would be less likely to be complaining about the grinder. As far as I can tell, this Breville grinder would be the stand-alone version of same grinder all the other Breville machines have built in. There might be slightly different settings, but they all use the same burrs.

TJ Maxx/Home Goods/Marshall's sell the Barista Pro for $499 during the holiday season. Barista Express is also $499 but why would anyone get the Express when the Pro could be had for $499.

They've been doing so for the past couple of years.

And yes, they are the newer models (with the built-in Barataza burrs).

So like for Black Friday I would see the $499 price ?

Yes, typically from around Black Friday time - early Jan is when they get some stock in.

Be warned though, it's not like every single store gets stock in. It is sort of a hunt.

For instance, none of the TJMaxx's/Marshall's around me ever had any. But most of the HomeGoods locations around me did receive a decent amount on a weekly/semi-weekly basis during the holiday season. And some stores only had the Express while others had the Barista Pro and Express.

Other states/areas people found them at TJMaxx and Marshalls.

It's all sort of random.

Bought one of these during the pandemic, makes better coffee than most places in my neighborhood. Zero problems!
