I have the original version and this version and while they both work as advertised, the newer ones are nicer as they integrate the plug covers whereas the original one can come off completely.

I have 2 sets of these and they have been great. One is used at Christmas time, the other is outside, used year round, but on a covered porch. It has been rock solid. It's in the lovely Florida humidity.

FYI, the version that has Apple HomeKit built-in is only $4 more. Same link, just select the HomeKit version.

I've been running a pair of these for the past two or three Christmases, in MN, and they've run perfectly. Water even caused a short further out in the lights themselves, and they survived fine 👍

I've had one of these on my back patio for 3 or 4 years now. No issues. Tempted to get another one to use for Christmas lights in front yard.

I have both, and they work equally well. For $3 more you can have the newer Tapo with Matter support:

I bought 4 of these probably 3-4 years ago for outdoor Christmas lights and they continue to work great.

So if I have the Wemo version do I need to update to this? Will Wemo stop working?

They'll all stop working.... eventually. Yes though, I have a couple indoor Wemo and have had problems with both. One stopped working completely and the other occasionally looses connection and needs be reset. Maybe different models are better, but Wemo is far from perfect.
Doesn't mean you will have an issue or even reason to switch, if yours is working at the moment. Plus, not saving all that much here.

They're perfect for christmas lights. Tempted to get another one myself but I probably don't need it...

anyone know of a heavy duty smart plug?

these smart plugs are rated at 15A, but they do not handle heavy induction loads (eg AC/compressor/motor loads) even if it's under 15A

Very expensive + you need to have a Caseta Hub, but Lutron's outdoor smart plug can be used with inductive loads. I have the PD-15OUT-BL and it integrates perfectly with apple home so you don't even notice it's a different brand once you have it all set up. I needed an indoor dimmer for something else so I splurged on the kit for the dimmer + Hub, and now I can use this outdoor one as well. I will vouch for this product being WAY better than any other zwave/zigbee wireless item I've used in the past. We have triple layer brick walls, and my hub is inside + 2 floors away from where this switch is and I have zero problems with it disconnecting.

I don't have this one, but my 6 other KASA plugs and switches will make brand loyal to it.
