Also I feel like the regular "deal" price for the 5200 has usually been $299. So is this much of a good deal?

I say this everytime this model is posted, but I hope it goes down to $260 like it did in 2020.

I thought I was going with a Vitamix after our Blendtec died, but recent reviews across many models on their site mentioning service and support accusing people of using it improperly when they've tried to get service, sometimes even after a few months. I've since decided that something doesn't feel right. Going to pass on this and look at the Breville Super Q.

I bought a refurb one off the Vitamix website in 2016, and it lasted nine years before finally giving up the ghost last month.
I was dead-set on buying this one to replace it, but ultimately went for the CleanBlend. Per Wirecutter it makes even smoother smoothies (which is all I use mine for) and is $200 less. Warranty was a couple years shorter but I figured at the lower price it was worth it.
But if you're dead-set on Vitamix/Breville/Blendtec, I'd strongly urge you to keep looking hard at the 5200. The biggest thing I noticed with my Vitamix (which wasn't the 5200, and had the shorter jar) was that thicker smoothies tended to create an air pocket at the bottom such that you had to fight to make it blend. I understand that the tall, narrow jar is much better generally (at the expense of not fitting under 18" cabinets). (And even if you have to use the plunger stick, it works better with the narrow bottom.) Frankly if the verticality is an issue I'd just store the jar next to the base and pull the base out when in use.

Customer Service was listening to my 7500 while I was asking questions. CSR: "It doesn't sound right, I'm going to have it picked up and serviced at n/c " It was returned within 10 days with a new container. I had purchased it new direct from them on a Aug 2021. FP deal for $290. The service was a year later in 2022. Vitamix takes care of customers who buy direct especially loyal customers. A company's commitment to service tends to cycle over time.

The 5200 has many loyal users likely because it ships with the 64 oz tall container. The redesign of the motor base in 2012 led to a much improved 7500. More powerful, better cooling, quieter, refined exterior, the best of the manual models.

The 32 oz container has the same 3" blade and narrow bottom as the tall 64 oz container without the height problem. Low wide containers use a 4" blade and it handles certain tasks better than the 3". Most versatile combination fo my needs is: 7500 + 32 oz + 64 oz low wide. YMMV.

IDKW Vitamix does not recommend the 64 oz tall on the 7500, pp report that it works fine. If you must have the 64 tall then buy the 5200.

The key to successful blending with any Vitamix is proper loading and use of the tamper and ramping up to full speed quickly in most cases. Vitamix has great tips and recipes With a little practice one learns how to overcome the air pocket issue with thick blends.

There's another deal for the Alta Pro at Costco for $319.99. Is that a better deal?

I purchased a refurbed 5200 directly from Vitamix for 320 plus tax and shipping in fall 2014 and have used it almost exclusively to make frozen fruit ( often times purely berries which freeze quite hard ) protein smoothies. It's still holding up strong and has made thousands of smoothies for me.

Can't speak to quality of newer ones though.

I personally think this is a good deal.

The best deal is the one which allows you to use the containers you need and want. Legacy models work with all containers not just NFC chipped Ascent containers. YMMV, personally I don't see any value in timers or presets. I prefer the rock solid 13 pound machines while others want the smaller foot print lighter machines with a plastic frame for portability. Some models put out high pitched noise at full speed, hurt my ears and require hearing protection. These are off my list.

Hands on experience is the only way to get a good fit. Vitamix offers a free 30 day trial and free returns with free pick up from your home. Can't beat no-risk. To obtain great results I had to learn by making mistakes and watching a few videos.
