Is this the same model Cricket was giving away for free (of course you needed to buy a plan) beginning of the year? Other than being unlocked, is this phone worth $200?
I have 2022 version. Solid phone for $200. Mine has survived many drops with Poetic brand case.

Total Wireless...$60 with plan. 2020 model. 128GB storage.

If you need this unlocked now yes it's worth $200. If you need a plan with it no, get it for free from a carrier with 60 day unlock policy.
I've had the Straight Talk 128GB version for over a year now.
Great phone, nice display, good battery life, mediocre camera. Not for AAA gaming, comes with android 14 and only one major update to android 15 and 3 years of security updates. One of the few phones that still comes with a headphone jack and an SD card slot, nice to have if you're into HD audio.
I don't use the stylus much at all, but it does have some handy shortcuts if you're into that.
If it were me, I'd look into the 2025 version as it has some nice improvements such as 2 major updates from android 15, faster charging, an upgraded screen, and an IP 68 rating.

It's also twice as expensive, definitely something to consider if the new features are worth it.
I currently have a Pixel 6a that I got here a few years back for $99, and I recently got a $99 cash refund from Google due to the battery issues (though the battery issues have not personally affected my device). Is this worth switching to? I'm somewhat inclined to keep on using the Pixel 6a until I notice any battery swelling issues, but my partner suggests I should probably go ahead and get a different phone before those issues arise.

I would keep using your phone while you do any deal at total wireless. If you can get a number to port you can get a stylus 2025 for around 90 or a samsung a36 5g for around 165. I personally would probably go for the a36 just for the updates alone(7 years I think). Wait 2 months and the phone will be unlocked to use with your carrier.
Pretty slick, and I bit. I was actually days away from purchasing this either for $250 new or $170 used/excellent condition. I decided NOT to bite on the recent deal on the 2025 model for $300 because of the battery life issues.
While there are some good deals on the 128GB version of this through carriers with service, those models have the bootloader locked down tight which means no root and no future custom rom potential. I know it doesn't matter to most, but rootability is a bare minimum for me to consider a phone.

It also has a built-in FM tuner with a radio app, which is great for listening to live local news stations without the need to pay for a subscription service or use data. (They dropped this feature from the 2025 version.)
have had this phone for nearly a year now using it over a samsung ultra s24 and it's been pretty great for a mid tier phone with lots of features that higher priced ones dont have. size, weight, responsiveness all excellent. pictures may not be GREAT, but they're hardly terrible either. biggest drawback is this OS update stops at 15 (current) while the 2025 version gets two more.

Other than being unlocked, is this phone worth $200?

From what I recall reading the XDA forums, for the purposes of patching the boot image, regular Magisk may not work, but Kitsune Mask does.
No Lineage roms as of yet, but someone apparently was able to run a GSI rom with minimal problems.
