Man, the number of times I get excited by this deal and then see that it's (still) a manual defrost model is insane.
It's a good deal for this size of an upright freezer, and the mechanical clone model with retro styling that I got from Walmart delivered for this price is still working as intended ~4.5 years later. Just after experiencing it as my first upright, while I would still argue very aggressively towards manual defrosts on chest freezers (for LONG term storage measured in years) because of the design of an upright freezer replacing almost all of the cold/dry air with warm moist house air whenever it is opened combined with a manual defrost requires (VERY) regular scraping of the coils or a semi annual full defrost.

If you're just storing frozen dinners, you won't notice so much, because they're in boxes and the box provides a bit of insulation. If you're storing meat and fish, you definitely want a manual defrost freezer like this one!
How much frost you accumulate mostly depends on how often you open your freezer, and somewhat on ambient temperature. I open my freezer twice a week, on average, and I've gone nearly two years between manual defrosts. If you open your freezer multiple times a day, especially in a hot climate, expect to defrost a lot more often.
Yes, it has manual defrost, but it only costs $198. I don't see the issue. I actually prefer manual defrost for an upright, personally.
