I currently have a a set of Paradigm monitor 9 v.5 floor standing speakers. Paradigm monitor cc-190 v.5 center speakers. I want to add a subwoofer and some surrounds in the future.
I can kinda afford the Anthem MRX but don't want to spend 1k more if it won't improve the audio quality much over this or reliability. Would appreciate the experts advice
if not and an extra $1000 is in your budget, I say go for the Onkyo RZ70
Interesting on why you chose the Anthem?
I honestly didnt demo the Anthem in my home
The salesman that sold me the Arcam actually owned the same unit and they had it in stock
I also own the Maranta Cinema 30 and Integra 8.4
I dont consider them on the line of Arcam

This was the previous EE deal link. It's an old post but the TXRZ30 code still worked a week ago. https://slickdeals.net/f/18309676-onkyo-tx-rz30-9-2-channel-network-a-v-receiver-799?src=SDSearc
Interesting...I almost went with Anthem...for my main listeing area...but I went with an Arcam pre/pro..The AV41

Both properly implemented in a home environment, the surround difference would likely be minor ime.
This should not be a surprise though.
Often the main differences between models is added features like extra channels not sound performance.
Now if all 9 of your speakers prefer/require solid power(inefficient), have a large/open environment & listen at ear piercing levels, than yes the RZ70 may be worth the over the double price.
Personally ime you're better off going external power, much better solid/clean power source & you only pay for it once.
That's one of the main advantages of going with separates(pre/pros) after all.
If you have no brand preference & after Dirac this is definitely the way to go especially at this price ime.
BTW EE still has the RZ70 under $1800($1795) and are an authorized retailer.
