The TCL QM8K is a bright, feature packed Mini LED TV that stands out in sunlit rooms and for Google TV flexibility. It is described as handling glare through sheer brightness, with vivid mode and roughly 3000 effective nits, and it adds an ATSC 3.0 tuner plus strong app compatibility. The glossy screen can still raise reflection concerns in very bright spaces, and some comparisons favor Samsung's matte finish or Sony's longer track record. Pricing also moved around, with reports of the 75 inch model at $1500, earlier lows near $1400, and a recent drop to $1299.

  • bright, window-heavy living rooms where you want to watch during the day because people say the QM8K's sheer brightness in vivid mode works well in extremely bright rooms and helps overcome glare/reflections.

  • people who are deciding between TCL and Sony Bravia 7 at similar prices and prefer to hedge with a longer warranty because one commenter chose Sony over a prior TCL failure after 3 years, and recommends the TCL with a 5-year warranty when considering the Sony alternative.

  • buyers who care about future-proofing over older tuners because commenters specifically point to the QM8K having an ATSC 3.0 tuner.

  • people who want Google TV app compatibility and stronger IPTV options because commenters say the QM8K's GoogleTV platform gives better app compatibility and better IPTV app support.

  • shoppers who are cross-shopping premium TVs and want a glossy screen that still performs in daylight because one commenter says they didn't notice reflections during the day and that day viewing was "awesome" for not having to worry about reflections.

  • buyers who are comparing against Samsung and want to avoid Samsung's Dolby Vision limitations because at least one commenter says Samsung is a "no-go" for them since it doesn't support Dolby Vision.

  • buyers who are very sensitive to screen reflections and want matte anti-glare specifically because at least one commenter says they ultimately chose the QN90F's matte screen for reflection handling in day/night viewing, implying the TCL's glossy approach may not be the deciding factor for them.

  • people who watch a lot of Dolby Vision content and don't want to verify compatibility requirements because one commenter says they watch a lot of DV and warns that you need to understand/meet the TV's requirements before choosing between options.

  • buyers who are mainly looking for a "safe" long-term track record based on past TCL reliability because one commenter reports a prior TCL failure (board after 3 years) and chose Sony as the safer choice despite similar pricing.

  • shoppers who are trying to time the deal price because the community reports the posted deal price dropped and that the price is higher (e.g., $1299) at BestBuy/Amazon, making the offer less compelling.

Going back and forth between this TV in 75" and Sony Bravia 7 for the same price. Relatively light controlled room with no real glare issues behind the seating area. Had multiple Sony TVs over the years that have lasted 10+ years while one TCL experience is failed board after 3 years. Costco has the Sony for $1500 with 3 year extended warranty. Feel like these are similar enough that going with Sony seems like the safe choice.

Probably been asked before, but I'm torn between the QM8K and the QN90F for a very bright room (sun streaks through transom windows everyday). I have an order with Samsung EPP for an 85" QN90F, but it won't be delivered until 2/21. So I get to second guess myself for a month.
It seems like the QM8K overcomes glare with shear brightness whereas the QN90F has a matte surface that eliminates glare at the expense some color and contrast. For those who may have a QM8K in a bright room, do you notice the glossy finish at all? Thanks!
The qm8k is plenty for a bright room (in vivid mode). Samsung is overpriced and overrated. Plus this is a company that routinely price gouges... just look at dram and ssd right now... very unethical.

This is a highly rated TV. I'd love to get one just to see how it is compared to my C5.

Probably the QM8K since it has a future-proof ATSC 3.0 tuner.

Also GoogleTV for better app compatibility. Better IPTV apps if you want to go down the rabbit hole of IPTV. Get 1000 channels for $100/year online.

Torn between one of these and a c5. My 2018 tcl r gets brighter than the c5 even still, not that my living room is that bright but sdr brightness watching YouTube makes me apprehensive. Hmm.

I am curious...what was the price difference at the time you bought between the Samsung and the TCL?
Is this with the price hump from a qm7k? Wanting to get a second TV but considering just grabbing the 7k again

I would go for the TCL and buy the 5 year warranty

if you were considering the Sony bravia 9 that would be another story

I paid $1799 + tax from Best Buy on the QN90F. I believe the TCL was ~$2k at the time. I went with a 75", so pricing a little different than this one.

The 75" TCL is on sale for $1500 now. Even had I waited, I think the Samsung was the better fit for my bright room with lots of windows.

$1400 was the lowest for the 75" QM8K. I'd still get the TCL one the QN90F. Getting rid of my QN90D and gonna grab a 85 QM8K before the superbowl

Everyone's criteria is different, but Samsung TVs are no-go for me because they refuse to support DolbyVision, but I recognize that's not important to a lot of people.
I used to be like this, but I haven't needed Dolby vision on my S95B Oled. I would stay away from lowered end TV's without Dolby vision, though.
