The real deal here is the Open Box Excellent for $783. I have this laptop and it's great. You won't get a thinner, lighter 16" laptop, and the display is beautiful. No complaints.

The overheating issues put me off of this initially. Do you know if those issues been resolved via firmware update?

Bought this in December. For my use (browsing and media), i occasionally see overheating but it's bearable. My only complaint is one dead pixel on the display which is annoying. Other than that, love this laptop!

I have the 32gb Intel i9-285H 14" version of this and like it a lot. The OLED screen is gorgeous. I have noticed the fans tend to kick up a little when gaming but honestly not nearly as bad as some other "gaming" laptops I've had in the past (I'm looking at YOU, Acer Nitro). If I have to nitpick, mine lacks a microSD slot, but not a dealbreaker. I just got a tiny usb-c drive for removable media.

I bought the below from slickdeals post last week. There's a reddit thread on updating the thermal paste. I'm going to do some benchmarks before changing out the paste. Thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/com...rs_having/

I'm curious about the heat dissipation as well. Thanks for bringing that topic in focus.

To be honest, I don't feel it is an issue any longer after ASUS updated the firmware to lower the temp on the CPU. I did buy this last APR 2025 and the fan noise was annoying. I returned it. Then, bought my current one in DEC 2025 on super sale (open box) for a steal and rarely do I hear the fans. Even on Performance mode, it's audible but not irritating. It's so a little an issue that I don't even think about it.

Yours is a 14" Intel Ultra 9 and this is a 16" AMD Ryzen AI 9. Big difference and one would expect the Ryzen-based 16" to run cooler.

Hmm, seems like a perfect combo laptop that can do light gaming with a large screen. The heating issue is the only thing. My m1 Mbp 16 has been so reliable and silent, so might be hard to switch

Does it have the screen door effect? Should be minimal due to the higher pixel density but I saw one youtube review claiming the screen door effect is very noticeable

This beats MacBook Air 15?

AI says "the Zenbook offering a superior 120Hz 3K OLED touch display, wider port selection (USB-A, HDMI), and strong AMD Ryzen AI performance. The MacBook Air excels in battery life, superior trackpad quality, and a silent, fanless design".
Seems correct

I've had this for a couple months now and have yet to notice it even get warm and really don't notice the fans, FWIW. There was one firmware I needed to apply but I have no idea how new that was or what it changed. If anything, it's quieter and cooler than my previous Zenbook. I have not tried any gaming on it, as I'm not a big gamer anymore.
I bought it for the lovely OLED screen, keyboard & touchpad, and thin/light format, and have not been disappointed. FUll disclosure: I mostly run Linux, which can be less resource hungry than Windows although drivers and low level hardware support are often not as well dialed in, so YMMV as far as heat.

I considered a 15" MB Air before buying this. Never owned an Apple product but not against them, though I'm comfortable with Windows and I dualboot Linux. MBA screens are nice but my eyes have a strong preference for OLED screens, this is a pretty similar size/weight profile, and my previous experience with a Zenbook was good. I may still own a Macbook some day but this seems like a pretty strong alternative.
