The real deal here is the Open Box Excellent for $783. I have this laptop and it's great. You won't get a thinner, lighter 16" laptop, and the display is beautiful. No complaints.
The Zenbook S 16 stands out as a thin, light 16 inch laptop with a gorgeous 120 hertz OLED touch display, strong Ryzen AI performance, and useful ports like USB A and HDMI. It handles productivity, media, coding, and even light gaming well, with fast login through Windows Hello and a solid keyboard and touchpad. Heat and fan noise are the main concern, especially under heavier loads, though firmware updates and lower power settings have helped some units run cooler and quieter. Open box condition varies a lot, so packaging, wear, and SSD usage are worth checking closely. A strong all around Windows alternative if OLED and portability matter most.
People who prioritize a vivid OLED screen for movies and reading, because the 120Hz 3K panel is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-catching.
Mobile professionals wanting a thin 16-inch work laptop, because it stays fast for productivity, web, and media while remaining comfortable at lower power.
Mostly stationary buyers needing a desktop-replacement laptop, because it is thin enough for the couch yet still feels solid and handles heavy multitasking well.
Gamers wanting sustained high-performance play, because the slim chassis can throttle under power-hungry workloads and the integrated graphics are only modest.
Use HWiNFO64 or CrystalDiskInfo to inspect the NVMe drive's total time on, power cycles, and bytes written. Very high power-on hours or extreme power-cycle counts can indicate a floor model or unusually heavy prior use.
For browsing, media, and productivity, it can run comfortably and often stays quiet, especially after firmware updates and with MyASUS set away from the highest performance mode. Heat and fan noise can still show up with gaming or other power-hungry workloads, where throttling is more likely.
Condition varies a lot: some open-box units arrive essentially new with original packaging and low SSD hours, while others come dirty, scratched, missing the original box, or even with loose panels and damaged lids. Store pickup seems safer than shipped open-box, and checking the unit in-store before leaving helps.
No, it uses integrated graphics rather than a dedicated GPU. It can handle light gaming and integrated-graphics workloads well, but demanding games may be limited by the slim chassis and power limits.
The 16-inch 120Hz 3K OLED touch display is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-candy, with strong preference over standard IPS panels for content viewing. One concern raised is a possible screen-door effect, but other owners report not noticing anything weird on the screen.
Does it have the screen door effect? Should be minimal due to the higher pixel density but I saw one youtube review claiming the screen door effect is very noticeable
I haven't noticed anything weird with the screen, no

No availability near me 😭 Not feeling confident about open box shipping order, since I won't be able to check before purchase
This one is super tempting but the gimped power limits and overheating reported on this laptop are a bit disconcerting. I'm cross shopping with the 258v 15.3in Aura Edition and I'm not sure what to decide.
Hmm, seems like a perfect combo laptop that can do light gaming with a large screen. The heating issue is the only thing. My m1 Mbp 16 has been so reliable and silent, so might be hard to switch
I owned M1 MBp 16 as well, thinking to switch to this Asus 16" due to light weight or macbook air 15". I like Mbp M1 16" looks solid, and no fan noise at all, the battery is good as well, but too heavy and bulky to carry around. I paid used Mbp 16 in like new condition for $650 from someone sold on FB marketplace.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i? Another excellent laptop with a beautiful screen that can almost pass for an OLED with a little tweak on the display settings.
I had that one before this ASUS and I only switched because I got the ASUS for around $450 after using some BB rewards.
The ASUS does not overheat now. Basically ignore any reviews before DEC 2025. I don't notice any performance difference between the two.
Got an Open Box in Fair condition for $550+tax but it was flawless. Sold it for later for $900
Same here, I think it was $630 or so before using my rewards points and it was "Fair" but like new with the plastic still on the lid and glass. Definite SCORE!
Not really a fair question...like asking is an orange better than an apple. Each has it's own pros and cons when compared and you need to qualify what your needs are. The Asus build is sexy as heck. The screen is eye-candy and has 120Hz OLED (something Apple can't seem to manage on a laptop). Lots of ports. Maybe better sound. The MacBook Air is a MacBook. Better battery life and has industry best build quality if that matters that much to you. But after using nicely equipped Windows laptops like this ASUS, a MacBook Air seems like a step backwards.

Yeah that Lenovo. It does seem like the 880m underperforms in the S 16 because of the lower power limits, while the 140v in the Lenovo does not. Can you say anything about the graphics abilities of each?

If you mean gaming, I don't. So unfortunately I don't have feedback on that. I can run a GPU benchmark on both if there is a particular one you are interested in.

If you wouldn't mind, doing the same 3D Mark benchmark, either TimeSpy or Firestrike would be really helpful. You can put both laptops in their highest performance modes and let's see who wins! They are both free within Steam and also available standalone I believe.

Agreed, while I like the MBA as a laptop, Macbooks generally for some reason have not great screens. I hate MBP's miniLEDs for its very slow response times. I actually prefer MBA screens (they are fine for IPS screens), but they are only 60Hz. Compared to 120Hz OLEDs, Apple's offerings are so much worse for content consumption --- I refuse to watch anything serious on Macbook screens.
I typically use a mouse, but the touchpad is big, and I think it might be glass, and I've noticed when it's dry air, the tracking can get weird. Could be me though? No fingerprint reader but the Windows Hello camera is super fast for logging in.

On the ASUS Zenbook S 16, the 3D Mark score for Time Spy was 3486 (Graphics=3135 and CPU=9581).
I will fire up my Lenovo and load that up next and will repost here.

It seems to be a slow one as far as modern cards go and I doubt it will run any games all that nicely.
Maybe if you run some ai models on your laptop it might be nice?
