The important part of that article is: "Nor does it prevent retailers from continuing to sell, import, or market router models approved previously through the FCC's equipment authorization process," the commission adds."
Meaning they can continue to manufacture and sell these as long as they were previously FCC approved for that model. We're seeing this in the drone space as DJI was rushing to get their last batch FCC approved before they clamped down.

Very very slightly better specs on the Costco model, nothing I would expect anyone to ever notice in the real world. Maybe worth the extra $15 for the better return policy, though.

Bought these awhile back. They're awesome. My wifi 7 devices gets really fast download speeds. You can open a separate server for 2.4 ghz for your security cams / tv / smart devices so your main wifi isn't cluttered with devices. You can open a guest wifi. And you can sign into a VPN with your router through the app. There's probably more that I haven't discovered yet.

I assumed that meant on the shelves currently but no new imports ( of same model number as on shelves)

Otherwise, companies can just keep making the same models and keep shipping them in to bypass ban.
Most likely they'll stop pushing updates to the US market because, well, what's the point?

I bought the costco version in December for the same price...set up all 3 units hardwired in different rooms across the house. Once I connected to 1 access point....I would get stuck on it. Would drop my session and not handover. Finally got frustrated and returned it.

Not a hot take as it already happened and its without a doubt still happening. Snowden blew the whistle on this ages ago, and nothing was ever done to anyone but him for enforcing the constitution. US intelligence agencies had back doors to every piece of networking equipment out there.

Just FYI handover issues are usually not the routers fault, but your devices fault. The Router can ask all it wants to try to shove the device to another signal but its up to the device to finally accept and do it.

I have the costco 11000 and I couldn't get a digital picture frame to connect. The IoT network allowed it to connect. I also put all my smart devices on it, including Alexa echos. The key point, the primary network CAN communicate with the IoT network. No need to specifically join it to print, etc.
Cool, been a bit since I used the TP-Links so I wasnt sure if they could see each other.

I have 2 WiFi 7 be63s that have been flawless. The IOT band picked up all of my dozen switches, plugs and cameras.
ASUS didn't. Never have to reboot.

this or Unifi Router?
I use both, a $129 Gateway Ultra Unifi router with these set up in AP mode.

Bad News: Router ban
Good News: Wifi8 still far away
Fortunately by the time Wifi8 is here the ban will be overturned.

I'm trying to find a new router and keep going back and forth with the Dream Router 7 and some Asus models. I'm still on the fence.
My old router died after 8 years. I was in the same situation, chose Dream Router 7. Amazingly simple to setup and gives you lot of options if you want to tinker. Gives you lots of insight about the network. From what I have heard Ubiquiti supports their devices for lot longer than ASUS.

The insight into traffic and analytics is what I like about it. I know ASUS can do it too with some extra tools I believe. I just keep waiting on a sale on the Dream Router 7. I missed the most recent one.

If you have a MicroCenter close to you, they have DR 7 for $249. Sometimes you can get an open box for $199

Unfortunately it's about an hour and a half away or I'd jump on it.

I had a very bad experience with the Unifi products, and will share, FWIW. This happened a few years ago, so maybe there have been enough changes to invalidate current options from my experience, but:My bro set up my parents' house with a Unifi system. He wanted good, full coverage, and used all Unifi parts, the APs were those saucer-looking ones, and then there was the controller module... I forget its name... Cloud something? Anyway - it worked, good area of coverage. We had weird problems. I could be in the same room as the printer with my laptop, yet be unable to access the printer. Both were on the WiFi network, same subnet and IP addresses were compatible, all that, but it was like the printer didn't exist. However, I could walk a few rooms away, and suddenly the printer would become available. There were loads of other weird, small problems over the course of 2 years with that system.Eventually I got fed up with it, disconnected it all, and got an Orbi system (I'm not advocating for Orbi, just what I got because at the time it was the good deal), and we have had very few problems since. Enough that I'm watching deals (almost pulled the trigger on this one or the Costco variant, but not there yet), but not enough that I'm constantly frustrated like I was before.Just my experience with Unifi - I won't go back, because it was THAT bad. I know many people who swear by the brand, but we all make choices that take into account our own experiences.
Yeah, same. I had unifi UAP 6. It should work better in theory. And it should be more reliable. But it just isn't. One of my MacBook pro just refuse to connect to the network. And there are random connection speed drops out of no where. I thought these mesh wifi would be unreliable. But I was completely blown away. It has consistent max speed and I never have to fiddle with the unifi controller again.

I've owned this for just under a year... tons of problems where satellites keep going offline. Support took a long time to fix (still waiting). I'd avoid.
Think you just got a lemon tbh

Feels like the word we all use everyday anymore... just wow
Side eyed political comments are stupid. What, that a country like China actually supports hacking and terrorism (look at their list of allies), not to mention killing the Uyghurs and forcibly taking their organs... I agree, WOW. But that a segment of society supports the CCP, that's really wow! We know for a fact that they spy and peform espionage as a matter of military policy, that they're actively seeking to create a bio weapon (far worse than Covid) for military strikes. I'm all for sympathy for the Chinese people, hence still buying some Chinese products, but their government is among the worst, and the majority of Chinese people would agree if Tiananmen Square didn't exist.
